What a strange year it must have been for Albert Pujols. He went from winning the World Series and being the consensus biggest name in free agency, to having a worse batting average than Howie Kendrick. If the Angels wanted a .286 hitter who could get 100 RBI’s and 30 jacks, they could have just signed Big Papi for half the price. It looks like the Cardinals came out victorious and those steadily declining Pujols numbers weren’t just an aberration. Somewhere, Tony La Russa is stirring a drink and reminiscing about better times. My guess is Pujols will be doing the same this offseason.

Angels head home despite big stars, high salaries

The Los Angeles Angels went out and got Albert Pujols last winter. They might end up having the youngest MVP in baseball history and a Cy Young winner. They've also got plenty of time to ponder how it all went wrong during the most anticipated season in franchise history. The Angels finished third in the AL West at 89-73, a record good enough to win the AL Central or to earn...

Cardinals Injury News: Lance Berkman Pinch-Hits for St. Louis

When St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman underwent surgery on his knee in early September, it appeared that his season, and perhaps career, were over. However, Berkman was able to return for the Cardinals last night as a pinch-hitter. Manager Mike Matheny made the move as a gesture to Berkman, who is likely in his last season with the Cardinals. The veteran slugger...

Confident Carpenter is hopeful for another start

ST. LOUIS Don't worry about the fact that Chris Carpenter only made three regular season starts. Give him a chance in the playoffs and his track record shows just what he's capable of doing. And he badly wants the chance to do it again. The right-hander made his third start of the season Tuesday night, allowing seven hits and three runs in six innings in a 3-1 loss to...

Angels reflect on disappointing season

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- "It's not the way you wanted it to end, and it's definitely not the way we envisioned it ending," Angels slugger Mark Trumbo said as he cleaned out his locker Thursday morning at Angels Stadium. What is Dan Haren Worth on the Open Market?

News broke last week that Angels pitcher Dan Haren will most likely hit the open market this winter; it’s rumored that the Angels are planning on declining Haren’s option after the season. Haren will be one of the top pitchers on the open market, behind teammate Zack Greinke. The question is: What is Haren worth on the open market? First, let’s look at what Haren has done...

Inconsistency and Missed Opportunities

By Robert Cunningham - AngelsWin.com Columnist Whether it was rotation issues, hitting woes, or a shaky bullpen, the title, above, effectively summarizes the Angels 2012 season. Here is a sample of what went wrong: 1) An early April slump that saw the Angels go 6-14 in their first 20 games. If they had even played .400 baseball that would be 2 more wins on the season.2) Offensively...
