Found April 11, 2014 on Cardinals Diaspora:
Friends, we’ve won. Let me back up. About 6 weeks ago, I moved to Chicago. Spring Training was in full swing and not a small part of me was ready to get in the belly of the beast and start talking baseball with differently minded people. If we’re being real honest with ourselves, the conversation about Mark Ellis’ tendinitis and how that could effect the 3rd spot on the Cardinals bench if Kolten Wong didn’t get off to a good start wasn’t exactly meaty. But in Chicago? These people have to HATE the Cardinals, right? I had my Wacha stats from last October memorized. Any talk of farm systems would get a healthy injection of Oscar Taveras. Oh, Wrigley is turning 100? Ballpark Village was baseball’s new crown jewel. (I know, but still…) Then I got here and I heard the following 3 things in order of frequency when I brought up the upcoming baseball season. 1) I really respect the Cardinals organization and what they’ve done. It’s an amazing franchise. Hopefully we’re like you one day. Goo...

James Ramsey continues to mash the baseball, Oscar Taveras too

It was another 3-1 night as Memphis outlasted Iowa, Springfield did the same to San Antonio, and Palm Beach snuck past Charlotte. The only team on the wrong side of the score column was Peoria who continues to struggle to score runs. A few observations from Friday and the season really. Oscar Taveras is back and healthy. He has played all but one of Memphis’ games and is starting...

Cardinals fan trolls Cubs fans with custom jersey

People don't refer to the Chicago Cubs as the Lovable Losers for nothing. It's been a really long time since the Cubs won a World Series. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1908 since the franchise last reigned supreme in the baseball world. This Cardinals fan wants to make sure everyone remembers how long it's been by toting around this jersey which reads "...

Cardinals update: Mark Ellis, Jason Motte

The St. Louis Cardinals are awaiting the returns of their veteran second baseman Mark Ellis and hard-throwing reliever Jason Motte. Ellis is on the disabled list with tendinitis in his left knee, and Motte is close to returning from Tommy John surgery. Here are the latest updates on each player via Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.Mark EllisEllis is close to rejoining...

With the Cards' grind about to begin (finally!), here are some numbers that WILL change

ST. LOUIS -- I don't know about you, but I'm about ready for the Cardinals' season to begin. Really begin. Granted, the standings say they've already played nine games but really, the best thing about this little 5-4 stretch is that it's over. I have nothing against Opening Day, even if I'm not sure it's special enough to be capitalized, and the day off...

Oscar Taveras and Aledmys Diaz continue their hot hitting on Thursday

Thursday brought a 3-1 record for the Cardinals’ farm clubs as Memphis got some redemption and Springfield won a wild one in extra innings. Palm Beach shut out Bradenton and Peoria was shut out by Dayton. A couple of big time prospects, Oscar Taveras and Aledmys Diaz, continued their hot hitting. Here are the results from Thursday’s action: Memphis 10 Omaha 1 Game Highlights...

Carpenter, Wainwright help Cardinals top Cubs 10-4

ST. LOUIS -- Matt Adams homered, Matt Carpenter drove in two runs and Adam Wainwright saved a tired bullpen by lasting seven innings for the St. Louis Cardinals in their 10-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. It was hardly a vintage performance by Wainwright (2-1), who helped his own cause with an RBI single. He gave up a homer to Junior Lake on his first pitch and allowed six...

Stumbling Cubs More Certain Than Taxes

It is safe to say that you won’t need to keep your schedule in October open.  Once again there won’t be any playoff baseball at Wrigley Field.  It isn’t as absolute a certainty as death, but more certain than paying taxes. The Chicago Cubs are off to a slow start again, they lost by one run for the third time in 2014, Thursday night against the Pirates.  The 5-4 loss prevented...

Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta will need at least one more rehab start

The Chicago Cubs entered the weekend series against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 3-6 record, four games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central. The Cubs have had two shaky outings from starter Edwin Jackson, but strong performances out of out of Travis Wood, Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel. The team may be getting another arm back soon, as Jake Arrieta...

Cardinals extend contract of GM Mozeliak through 2018 season

The St. Louis Cardinals extended the contract of general manager John Mozeliak for two years through the 2018 season.

Cubs almost waste another Jeff Samardzija gem but beat Cardinals

For the first six innings Friday night, it looked like Jeff Samardzija would receive long-awaited and ample run support only with another team. The Cubs' offense finally broke through with three runs in the seventh and eighth innings while Samardzija held his own with seven innings of one-run ball against the National League champion Cardinals. Those were the first runs scored...

Castillo's 3-run HR in 11th lifts Cubs over Cards

ST. LOUIS (AP) Welington Castillo hit a three-run homer in the 11th inning off closer Trevor Rosenthal, who struck out with an unusual chance to win it, and the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 on Friday night.

TV Ratings: Cardinals Score Best Home Opener Since ’11 (Also: NBA/ESPN, LPGA Tour)

A week after their highest rated road opener ever on FS Midwest, the St. Louis Cardinals scored their third-best home opener rating on the network. In other news, ESPN had big increases for NBA action […]

Deep Impact: Middle Infeiders

As of 4/10, these middle infielders are all owned in less than 10% of ESPN leagues, and contingent on the context, I would conditionally own them all. And that’s how you alliterate league format dependency. While they’re ranked by %ownership, I’ll furnish my zeal for each: #1 - Kolten Wong(6.5%) – He’s only 23, so give him a little time. He’s already got a top-20 contact...
