They always say that the toughest ball hit at the center fielder is the ball hit right at him.  And from personal experience, they are right.  I’m pretty sure St. Louis Cardinals outfielder John Jay would agree.  In the fourth inning of Monday’s game in Houston, ‘Stros catcher Jason Castro hit a line drive that froze Jay off the bat.  Per any good “How to Play the Outfield” novel, an outfielder’s first step should always be back (it’s easier to charge in on a ball than it is to start in and have to go back).  Jay didn’t seem to follow Center Field 101 and looked to have taken a step in. After he realized that the ball wasn’t sinking and picked up his proverbial jock strap (outfielders don’t wear cups), he made an excellent recovery to knock down the line drive with his glove.  I believe it’s plays like this where the imaginary word “stick-to-it-tive-ness” came from.  MLB.com has 75 different angles of one of the better barehanded plays by a St. Louis Cardinals center fielder o

Cardinals Drug Into A's / Yankees Cat Fight

The Cardinals had a productive, but un-controversial, weekend in Chicago. But that didn't stop the NY media from dragging them into a ***** fight between the Oakland A's and NY Yankees. Long story short, the Yankees and A's played a 14 inning whopper on Saturday, but in the top of the 13th inning, the A's banged out 3 home runs. And when a team that features 17...

Cardinals Are Trailblazers

It's been an odd season for the Cardinals. Every season has its peculiarities, but 2012 seems to have a homoerotic flair not normally associated with baseball. If your seeking reasons why, please refer to Yunel Escobar's plastering of gay slurs on his eye black as reason #1 and #2. That wasn't from 1956, that was from 2 weeks ago.The Cardinals, on the other hand, are...
