AP St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski had a pretty freaky injury to his eye when he was golfing recently, which will cause him to miss some time from the baseball diamond. Rzepczynski was scheduled to pitch Saturday, but was hit in the eye during a round of golf, according to the the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. On his second shot on the first hole of a round of golf, Rzepczynski attempted to punch shot around a tree. He made the shot and collapsed, his eye struck and bruised by something. The golf ball traveled far enough that he is unsure how it could ricochet off the tree and his eye and still carry into the fairway. He is unsure if something else was hit by the club and damaged his eye. The Dispatch also says that an acorn and a rock are also possible objects that could have caused the injury. Luckily for Rzepczynski, nothing really serious happened to his eye. The post Cardinals Pitcher Had Freak Eye Injury While Golfing appeared first on FootBasket.

Cardinals pitcher injured in freak golf accident

The next time Cardinals pitcher Marc Rzepczynski hits the golf course, he should probably wear safety glasses. As first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Rzepczynski was injured at a golf outing on Friday when a golf ball ricocheted and hit the left-handed reliever around his left eye. Although the club is hopeful the injury is not serious, Rzepczynski will miss his scheduled...

Yadier Molina starts record label

Yadier Molina spends months each year at the plate cranking out hits. In 2012, the St. Louis Cardinals catcher collected 159 on his way to a .315 batting average, both career bests. Now, the 30-year-old hopes to extend his hit-making skills into the music business. Back home in Puerto Rico for the World Baseball Classic, the backstop announced Molina Records’ first launch, an...

Cardinals' Trevor Rosenthal is a reliever, but for how long?

After his stellar performance last year as a reliever both down the stretch during the regular season and during the playoffs, Trevor Rosenthal will be returning to the pen this year.  But, is this a career change for Rosenthal or just a temporary assignment? As we have seen previously with Adam Wainwright and Lance Lynn, the Cardinals have no qualms about using one of their stud...

Marc Rzepczynski involved in a bizarre golf injury

In what seems like the offseason of bizarre baseball injuries (including Francisco Liriano and kids at Christmas, and Joel Peralta getting out of his car to procure a sandwich), Marc Rzepczynski (a.k.a. scrabble) the effective, situational lefty out of the Cardinals strong bullpen added to the casualty list.  As he played golf today in Viera, Florida, presumably after his ball club’s...

Cardinals Injury News: Matt Holliday still recovering from flu

The St. Louis Cardinals didn't get Matt Holliday back yesterday, but at least he was in the clubhouse.  The All-Star outfielder has been battling the flu, and he won't get back on the field until he's kicked it. Matt Holliday has arrived at Roger Dean but said he won't work out or do anything today. He's still dealing with the flu. — B.J. Rains (@BJRains...

Cards players ready to watch, root during WBC

JUPITER, Fla. - Edward Mujica proudly wore his Team Venezuela cap Thursday. But it was also a weird feeling. He was wearing it in the Cardinals clubhouse and not in Puerto Rico where the rest of his fellow countrymen were playing in the first round of the World Baseball Classic. Mujica was offered the chance to pitch for the Venezuelan team in the WBC but turned it down in January...

St. Louis Cardinals to lose SS Rafael Furcal for season

There was hope that rest and some time off might be able to cure shortstop Rafael Furcal’s ailing elbow. On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals announced that the veteran infielder will undergo Tommy John surgery on his elbow and most likely will miss the entire 2013 season. Furcal made the trip to Pensacola, Florida to visit renowned surgery Dr. James Andrews who made the determination...

Wainwright sharp, Cardinals blank Marlins

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Adam Wainwright might be spending a little more time in autograph sessions after a picture presented by a fan to sign helped the St. Louis pitcher diagnose a flaw in his mechanics. Wainwright struck out six in 4 2-3 innings and the Cardinals blanked a Miami Marlins split squad 2-0 Saturday. The photograph that benefited Wainwright was taken a couple years...

Oh, So Now Pete Kozma Is Good Enough For St. Louis

Pete Kozma might have gotten sudden public support along with the St. Louis Cardinals starting shortstop job after Rafael Furcal announced Thursday he would have Tommy John surgery and miss the entire 2013 season, but Kozma has deserved some of that respect long before now. Kozma hit .333 in 26 games for the Cardinals at the end of last season after Furcal injured his elbow Aug...

Wainwright Talks Progressing

The St. Louis Cardinals entered this off season with a glaring need: Adam Wainwright‘s contract will expire after this season. The Cardinals have been down this road before and, while the results were a little less then ideal, they have shown that they can continue to be successful after losing a superstar type player.  The situations are obviously not identical, but they are...
