The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-hander Scott Linebrink on the 15-day disabled list because of a problem in his right shoulder.
The Cardinals purchased right-hander Victor Marte from Triple-A Memphis and he is in uniform for Friday's game in Milwaukee. Marte has 30 career appearances, all with Kansas City.
Linebrink is sidelined with capsulitis, a condition that can result from inflammation.
Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak says there is ''no major structural damage'' to Linebrink's shoulder, and he should improve with rest.
Linebrink's move to the disabled list is retroactive to March 30.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman doesn't appear to care much for the new Miami Marlins stadium, saying, "there were a lot of shenanigans."
Last night, the St. Louis Cardinals spoiled the home opener for the Florida Marlins in their brand new ballpark.
During the game, ESPN cameras for some reason took a shot of the Cardinals dug-out and accidentally showed Rafael Furcal adjusting his pants.
Later in the shot, pants were on the ground:

2012 Outlook – 60 (8th)
One down, 161 to go, right?
I think the assumption around baseball was if Albert Pujols left the Cardinals, he would leave a husk of a team behind him. If his teammates didn’t prove their worth enough throughout their playoff run in 2011, they’ll get ample chance to do so in 2012. They should be up to the challenge, as this roster was especially well...
Jayson Stark did an article for ESPN yesterday that talked about some of the St. Louis Cardinals’ reactions to the new stadium in Miami. I found some of the comments pretty damn funny…
Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman:
“I just feel like, if it were up to me — and it’s not; nobody asked me, and I don’t know why anybody would care about my opinion — but if I was building...
David Freese (credits below) St. Louis doesn't seem too phased about saying bye-bye to Pujols. Beltran, Holliday and Freese all went yard in the 3rd en route to a 11-5 win over the Brewers. Freese is now 5 for 10 in his first 2 games and continuing right where he left off from last years postseason. That's a lot of coin saved for the Cards if they can keeping winning without...
So far, the St. Louis Cardinals are making it look easy in 2012. And while no one would say anything in 2011 was easy—maybe when they put Game 7 of the World Series out of reach…maybe—the Cards are playing a lot like they did at the end of last season.
And that’s no small feat, for a couple of reasons. Mike Matheny and his revamped coaching staff may not have been tested...
Three Cardinals homered in a four-run third inning — including David
Freese, who went 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs — as St. Louis spoiled Milwaukee’s

Opening Day is in the books for the defending champions, now the St. Louis Cardinals will play the remainder of the month against the Central Division and it starts with a series in Milwaukee against the Brewers.
It’s time to grab a cold frosty one (heh, heh, heh), make some nachos and settle in on the couch, the season is starting. Don’t get any cheese on the keyboard and...
Baseball season finally arrived in the United States as the Marlins took on the St. Louis Cardinals in Miami. The game was a little lacking, but that stadium looked pretty sweet. If you ask us, the...

During the run-up to last year's NL championship series, the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers openly acknowledged something most people already knew: The two division rivals didn't like each other very much.
The Cardinals went on to earn ultimate bragging rights in one of baseball's most spirited rivalries last season, knocking the Brewers out of the playoffs...
