The St. Louis Cardinals have place center fielder Shane Robinson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder reports MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch. Robinson injured his shoulder while sliding back to first base to avoid a pick-off during Game 1 of the Cardinals' Tuesday double header with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He left the game at the end of the inning and did not play in Game 2 or in Wednesday's game. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak believes that Robinson will be ready after the required 15 days, maybe even before. He chose to disable the center fielder, though, so the Cardinals would not have to play a man short for even a short length of time. Said Mozeliak, "I think the best thing is to give him a couple weeks to get recovered. I'm hopeful it won't take him that long, but I just didn't feel comfortable, especially with our schedule, to go short." Mozeliak called up outfielder Adron Chambers to take Robinson's roster spot. Chambers brings speed and defense from Triple-A. He has a low average of .252 but stole 15 bases in 98 games with Memphis. The Cardinals also recalled first baseman/outfielder Brock Peterson to take the spot of MVP candidate Yadier Molina, who also went on the DL Wednesday. Peterson adds a right-handed power bat off the bench. He hit 23 home runs in Triple-A. The Cardinals enter play on August 1 in second place in the N.L. Central, 2.5 games behind Pittsburgh. They have one more game with Pittsburgh tonight and then face Cincinnati for three over the weekend. St. Louis currently leads Cincinnati by 3.5 games for the first N.L. Wild Card spot; Cincinnati holds the second spot. Follow Raymond on Twitter @RayBureau. Like Raymond’s “Baseball Bureau” page on Facebook. Follow @mlbinjurynews Looking for fantasy baseball advice?

Why did the Cardinals wait so long to use Joe Kelly in the rotation?

What took you so long? McNeal: Cards are quiet at trade deadline, and wisely so

ST. LOUIS -- So the Cardinals didn't make a significant trade before the deadline for the first time since 2008. I say good for them. As sharp as Cliff Lee would look wearing the Birds on the Bat, the Cardinals never were close to a deal, according to a Phillies source. If the Cardinals weren't going to mortgage a big chunk of their future on Lee, no other available...

'Star Wars Night' inspires creative blends of Cardinals and intergalactic characters

ST.
