Courtesy: Cardinals Media Relations KANSAS CITY, MO The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Victor Marte from Memphis (AAA) and optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez to the triple-A club. Marte is expected to be in uniform (66) for the Cardinals series opener in Kansas City this afternoon. Marte, 32, was 1-0 with a 2.78 ERA in 20 games for the Memphis Redbirds this season, striking out 23 batters in 22.1 IP. He had a team-leading 10 saves that ranked 4th in the Pacific Coast League. Marte appeared in 48 games for the Cardinals in 2012, going 3-2 with a 4.91 ERA. He also pitched for Kansas City in 2009 and 2010 before being traded to St. Louis in April of 2011 for cash considerations. Martinez made seven relief appearances for the Cardinals following his call-up on May 3 and struck out nine batters in 8.0 innings pitched.
