The St. Louis Cardinals released reliever Miguel Batista on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old Batista failed to retire a batter in Monday's 10-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
He also was hammered for five runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning against Washington last week.
Batista is 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 26 appearances this season.
The Cardinals recalled righthander Lance Lynn from Triple-A Memphis to fill Batista's slot on the roster.
