Cardinals reliever Kyle McClellan says he will not need surgery on his sore right elbow. McClellan said Tuesday that a second opinion from noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews confirmed an earlier diagnosis by team medical director Dr. George Paletta. McClellan said he received an injection of platelets in his arm designed to help speed the recovery. He said he believes he'll be able to begin throwing in six weeks and would like to return to the Cardinals in August. He went on the disabled last Friday with a strained ulnar collateral ligament and partly torn flexor muscle near his right elbow. He had pitched the previous day in San Francisco and left in the seventh inning. McClellan has a 5.30 ERA in 16 appearances.

Cardinals pushing on despite injuries

ST. LOUIS The hits started coming in Spring Training and they haven't stopped since. It's as if the baseball Gods wanted the Cardinals to try and prove last year's World Series title was no fluke by giving them a stiffer challenge. Hit with a rash of injuries that included their fifth player being placed on the disabled list in the past week Tuesday, the Cardinals continued...

Lance Berkman's Injury a Big Blow, But Cardinals Have Shown They Thrive in Face of Adversity

Been there, done that. As unfortunate as Lance Berkman's injury is, and as devastating a blow it is to the St. Louis lineup, the Cardinals have faced about as much adversity over the past 15 months as any team in Major League Baseball. Yet, they just keep winning. When pitcher Adam Wainwright went down prior to the start of last season, many were already writing off the Cards...

Daily Notes - The Couple of Guys Under the Radar Edition

So, Adam Wainwright looked like the old Adam Wainwright last night, rattling off the complete game shutout, fanning 9, allowing only 4 hits, 1 walk. He has been mostly average so far this season, with glimpses of his old self, but last night was encouraging (understatement). Yes, this gem came against the Padres, but his next start is Sunday against the Phillies and they aren'...

Tyler Greene hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, trumping Jesus Guzman's two-run double in the top half, as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 to snap a four-game losing streak Monday night. Jaime Garcia allowed two runs and struck out seven in seven-plus innings for the injury-riddled Cardinals, who held their half-game lead over Cincinnati...
