Cardinals Slugger Expected To Return In Short Order After Lingering Ailment

Good news has been hard to come by for the St. Louis Cardinals as the team continues to suffer from injuries and seemingly uncontested losses.

However, the most recent injury update from one of St. Louis' most vital talents may change the pace of consecutive lousy news for the ball club.

"(St. Louis) lefty slugger Nolan Gorman (low back pain) is going through a full pregame workout session today," MLB.com's John Denton tweeted Wednesday. "If all goes well -- and the Cards fully believe it will -- he will return to action against the (Philadelphia Phillies) on Friday."

Gorman was placed on the 10-day injured list after complaining about a lingering back injury stemming from a 2020 weightlifting incident.

The 23-year-old has not played since August 12th and has been taking the time off to stretch his injured back which reportedly flares up regularly, according to manager Oliver Marmol.

The Cardinals will surely be grateful to have Gorman back in the lineup as he's hitting .241 with 40 extra-base hits including 24 home runs, 67 RBIs, and a .815 OPS in 104 games this season.

With prospects Masyn Winn and Richie Palacio performing well since being called up from Triple-A Memphis last week, Cardinals fans will also have the return of power-hitting second baseman Gorman to look forward to.

It sometimes seems that nothing has gone right for the Cardinals this season, but it could always be worse -- Gorman's injury could be more serious.
