David Freese led the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series victory last season, earning the NLCS MVP and World Series MVP awards in the process. Despite his success and his new status as a hometown hero, the Cardinals third baseman still had room for improvement, at least when it came to his fashion game. Freese classified his personal style as “lacking” and referred to his hair as a “dry salad” (a.k.a. no products). To help his “average” fashion sense live up to his above average game, GQ magazine took a swing at transforming Freese’s style.

The men’s fashion publication kept his new look simple, yet elegant. A solid navy suit from Yves Saint Laurent was a paired with a classic white shirt from Ralph Lauren Black label, a dark tie and shoes from John Varvatos. Check out David’s before and after photos:

Cardinals Now Mystic; Predict Freese Has Awful Year

The Cardinals have long traded in the art of baseball, but apparently have added mysticism to their cadre of talents over the off-season. Just this morning, the CD Inbox received word that third baseman David Freese was going to slug 13 home runs and drive in 64 runs.  So confident they were, that it was put right there in the subject line so I didn’t even have to open it up...

Yesterday, the Cardinals announced that they will celebrate their most recent World Series championship by trotting out gold-coated uniforms and caps on Opening Day. On the jerseys, the notorious “birds on a bat” will sit atop a gold baseball bat, with matching gold lettering. Player names and numbers on the back of the jerseys will [...]

Cardinals minor league spring training notebook: 03/22

On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals had yet another camp day in which their top two and lower two rosters opposed each other while the Marlins and Mets faced off elsewhere. In addition, in large part due to Wednesday’s cancellations due to wet grounds, three was even more action than usual. A third game plus a simulated game on the fourth diamond of the quad were added. There...

Next Cardinals’ crop could be quite the harvest

Sunday’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch included a story on St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras. Taveras opened eyes last season when he posted the highest batting average in the Midwest League since 1956. Taveras hit .386 with an on-base percentage of .444. Manager Mike Matheny admitted the batting mark caught his eye and has given Taveras a handful of at-bats with the...

Carpenter out indefinitely with nerve irritation

Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter has been shutdown indefinitely due to nerve irritation that has led to weakness in his right shoulder, the club announced Friday. The news is particularly troubling to the Cardinals and Carpenter, who missed the 2004 playoffs due to a similar nerve issue and had surgery in 2008 to transpose a nerve in his right elbow. The right-hander was sidelined...

Post-Dispatch parent to charge for some online access

The parent of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Lee Enterprises, has announced intent to implement subscriptions for online access before the end of this year in most markets. (Details here.) The company currently has papers in 52 markets but did not comment whether or not the P-D will be included. As Lee’s largest entity, it would be surprising to me if it was excluded. Lee began a...

Do Cardinals have life after Pujols?

On Sept. 5, the Cardinals lost to the Brewers to fall to 74-67. The leaders for the wild card, the Braves, were 82-58 and had a magic number of 14 with just 22 games to go. A week later, thanks in part to a sweep of the Braves, the Cardinals had shaved four games off the lead. They finished the year winning 16 of their final 21, earning a playoff berth on the last day of the season...

Lance Berkman: Keeper of the Faith

This past week, Lance Berkman created a stir nationally when he offered his opinions of the Astros move to the American League. Throughout the offseason he has been offering his opinions on the move itself. The crime of it all is that he was the only prominent person opposing the move and calling it an abomination. This week he uttered the words that all of us in the...

Replacing a Cardinal legend

Replacing a Cardinal legend…those words could mean a lot of different things coming into the 2012 season. It could mean Lance Berkman taking over first base for Albert Pujols. It could mean rookie manager Mike Matheny replacing Hall-of-Fame manager Tony LaRussa. This article will focus on Derek Lilliquist, Cardinals pitching coach, who has the task of replacing arguably the greatest...
