The Cardinals parted with another one of their struggling relievers today when they traded Marc Rzepczynski to the Cleveland Indians for minor league infielder Juan Herrera, according to Derrick Goold.   Scrabble was the last holdover from the Cardinals trade that sent Cody Rasmus to Toronto back in 2011.  He was the key lefty out of the team's pen during their World Series title run in 2011, but had fallen out of favor with the team this season after posting a 7.84 ERA in 11 games. That and the emergence of rookie lefthander Kevin Siegrist made Rzepczynski expendable.  Herrera was unranked among the Indians top 30 prospects heading into the 2013 season and has a career line of .286/.382/.384 in 479 at bats.  He doesn't have much power (just 2 homers), but has a little speed (17 steals).  He can play second, third and short and likely profiles as a future utility player. Overall, he's about what you would expect in return for Scrabble at this point.  There's not a lot of upsid...

  • another infieder?adams and craig at first,carpenter/decalso at second,kozma/furcal(remember him)at short.freeze at third.why do we need more?lose kozma for starters,he's not ready, and not that reliable.adams, craig, decalso, carpenter and freeze will fit infield.that leaves one extra giving freeze incintive to pick up the pace.set the one thats not producing.outfield is good.pitching is our week spot right now.come on matheny,i dont have your experiance, but i've known cardinals for 40years now.and FYI,show a little emotion once in a while.players will feed from it.
