The Los Angeles Dodgers slugged their way to a resounding victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in their Dodger Stadium opener and now can achieve their first winning streak of the season.

The Dodgers enter the second game of their series with the Cardinals at 2-1, having won on both Opening Day in South Korea and their domestic opener.

Bobby Miller takes the mound for his 2024 debut that comes a day earlier than was first expected. Los Angeles had Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitch in the Seoul Series, which left both right-handers lined up to take the ball in the first two games against the Cardinals.

However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained scheduling factors prompted the team to push Yamamoto back to Saturday.

Miller is coming off a rookie season in which he went 11-4 with a 3.76 ERA and 1.10 WHIP while shouldering a heavier workload than anticipated because of a rash of injuries to the Dodgers’ rotation.

Miller put together a strong showing in Spring Training and expressed confidence in his preparation and progression heading into the regular season. The 24-year-old is facing the Cardinals for the first time in his young career.

St. Louis counters with Zack Thompson, who is making just the 11th start of his career. The left-hander made his MLB debut in 2022 and thus far has appeared in a total of 47 games.

Thompson went 5-7 with a 4.48 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 25 games (nine starts) last year. Thompson has not faced the Dodgers since making a pair of relief appearances against them in September of the 2022 season.

He sees a different lineup this time around, most notably with Shohei Ohtani batting second. Mookie Betts remains in the leadoff spot and Freddie Freeman is hitting third, but the Dodgers lineup otherwise is changed from the series opener due to platoon matchups.

Kiké Hernández, Chris Taylor and Miguel Rojas all draw their first starts of the season against the left-hander, while Teoscar Hernández slides to right field and Betts draws the start at second base.
