On Thursday night it was announced that Kolten Wong was on his way to Chicago and will meet up with the Cardinals on Friday for his first big league call up. To clear a roster space for Wong, outfielder Adron Chambers was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis. With Shane Robinson getting activated from the disabled list on Thursday, Chambers was not needed. Wong has excelled this season at Memphis. Wong was hitting .303 with 10 home runs and 45 runs batted in for Memphis. Wong also stole 20 bases and provided very solid defense for the Redbirds. Most recently, Wong was named “the Best Second baseman in the Pacific Coast League” by Baseball America, who polled all of the managers in the PCL. Wong had a very rough July, only hitting around .230, but had rebounded with a .364 average so far in August.
