Carlos Beltran hit a go-ahead two-run single in the fifth against his former team and Shelby Miller beat the reigning World Series champion San Francisco Giants in his second career start, spoiling Buster Posey's MVP party with a 6-3 win for the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. Pete Kozma had three hits, drove in a run and scored for St. Louis from the No. 8 spot in the order, Matt Holliday singled in a run and Matt Carpenter added an RBI single in the ninth. Beltran also hit an RBI single in the first against Ryan Vogelsong in a matchup of the teams that won the past three World Series -- and a rematch of last fall's NL Championship Series won in seven games by the Giants. Hunter Pence hit a solo homer in the second and Pablo Sandoval homered and hit an RBI single. He also played more strong defense for San Francisco on a day Vogelsong (0-1) struggled to consistently command the strike zone. Giants 3B Sandoval working to get in better shape

Pablo Sandoval is ready to put all the chatter about his weight to rest. Last year's World Series MVP insists he is doing his best to get in tip-top shape, and he's certainly showing he has plenty of range at third base. After spending the spring working on his defense, Kung Fu Panda made several nice plays behind Barry Zito to back a 1-0 win over St. Louis in San Francisco...

St. Louis Cardinals: Mitchell Boggs is the right man to close in interim for Cardinals

The city of St. Louis was up in arms earlier this week after interim closer Mitchell Boggs blew a save in extra innings in a 16 inning loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Boggs is the closer for the St. Louis Cardinals for the time being due to the elbow injury to Jason Motte and Cardinals fans were already calling for his removal after his first blown save in his first attempt....

Cards look to solve Giants starting pitching

(AP) -- San Francisco's No. 5 starter Ryan Vogelsong has a tough act to follow. That is, he has a couple of tough acts to follow. The Giants' rotation has yet to allow an earned run, and Vogelsong will try to keep that impressive streak intact when he takes the ball Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. San Francisco's formidable rotation is off to a stellar start...

Barry Zito pitches gem against Cardinals

Barry Zito notched a win in his first start of the season Friday. Zito pitched seven innings allowing just three hits in the Giants 1-0 win against St. Louis. Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings preserving the win. Expectations have been tempered over the past few seasons with Zito but a strong postseason and World Series win have raised them this...

Reds-Cardinals Preview

There'll be even more pomp than usual before the Cardinals begin a three-game series Monday against the NL Central champion Cincinnati Reds. New Dodgers Handled By the Same Old Giants

The newly purchased Los Angeles Dodgers started the 2013 season by rolling up to their home stadium in a fleet of high end BMWs, Lamborghinis, and Porsches. Three games later the San Francisco Giants had those vehicles tagged, towed and impounded in the 2013 National League West cellar. And while it's not likely the Dodgers will continue to lose two of every three games,...
