PITTSBURGH (AP) The St. Louis Cardinals have placed catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Shane Robinson on the 15-day disabled list and recalled outfielder Adron Chambers and utility player Brock Peterson from Triple-A Memphis. Molina has been dealing with a right knee sprain for more than a month. He left a 6-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night after the third inning and flew to St. Louis on Wednesday for further examination. Molina is third in the National League with a .330 batting average. The All-Star said late Tuesday he tried to play through the pain but believes rest is a better option. The injury comes at a difficult time for the Cardinals, who have lost a season-high six straight to fall 1 12 games behind Pittsburgh in the NL Central.

How will the St. Louis Cardinals fare with Yadier Molina on the DL?

Tony Cruz (AP Photo/Tom Gannam)   When the St. Louis Cardinals dropped both games of a doubleheader and the division lead to the Pirates Tuesday, it was not the worst thing that happened to the club that day.  The most troubling problem was when Cards catcher Yadier Molina’s sprained knee flared up and he left the game, ending up on the 15-day disabled list.  While the Cardinals...

St. Louis Cardinals C Yadier Molina: Bad news

Hot News for C Yadier Molina

With Molina on DL, Cruz is more ready for this than you think

ST. LOUIS -- Remember those old home appliance commercials where the repairman never had anything to do? Tony Cruz, the backup to Yadier Molina, can relate. In his third big league season, Cruz never started more than two consecutive games, and that was earlier this month when Molina's knee woes first surfaced. Well, Cruz is about to get a chance to play regularly for at...

McNeal: Things go from bad to worse for Cards in Pittsburgh

ST. LOUIS -- Forget the good news. For the Cardinals Tuesday, there was only bad news and worse news. First, the worst: Yadier Molina had to exit with what the club called a right knee sprain. Yes, that's the same knee that sidelined Molina earlier in the month for two games. This time, Molina indicated that he will need more than a couple of days. He told reporters that he...

All's quiet on the Cardinals trade front

The trade deadline has passed and the Cardinals didn't make any moves.  Not surprising, given the Cards current standing and the high asking price for the pieces the team was looking at. There was a little bit of a flurry just before the deadline as the Cardinals tried to acquire Dioner Navarro from the Cubs to provide the team with a little more catching depth with Yadier...

St. Louis Cardinals have terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week

The St. Louis Cardinals landed Friday in Atlanta ready to begin an 11-game, 10-day road trip against three of the best teams in the National League with the best record in Major League Baseball. They had a lead in the NL Central and the best hitter in the league. A week later, the Cardinals have yet to win another game, the Pittsburgh Pirates have passed them for the division lead...

A Win (Finally) & The Friday Links

Despite their recent losing streak, the Cardinals still lead the MLB in batting average and ERA for the month.  Don't worry, it took me a second, too. But feel free to use it at work today for some good 'ol fashion humor from people that are willing to talk about anything for a few minutes if it gets them closer to 5p even a little faster. The Cardinals hung...
