Carl Crawford's two-year stint with the Red Sox turned out to be a major disappointment. After signing a seven-year $142 million deal with the Sox in 2010, Crawford failed to live up to the high expectations set for him. His 2012 campaign was cut short due to a elbow injury that forced him to have Tommy John surgery. The Red Sox finally had enough when they agreed to include Crawford in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 31-year-old continues to rehab from his surgery this spring, and is anxious to start his career in LA. However, he delivered some pretty scathing quotes on his time in Boston to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. Crawford's main target appeared to be the Beantown media, who he says made him become utterly miserable."That smile turned upside down quick," Crawford said. "I think they want to see that in Boston. They love it when you're miserable."Burying people in the media, they think that makes a person play better. That media was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life."Crawford added that the media seemed to criticize him and other key free agent acquisitions every chance they could."I took so much of a beating in Boston, I don't think anything could bother me anymore," he said. "They can say what they want -- that I'm the worst free agent ever -- and it won't get to me. But it bothered me the whole time there."Look how they treat [John] Lackey. Adrian [Gonzalez] hit 30 home runs (actually 27), and they talked about him not hitting home runs."The four-time All Star now admits that signing with the Red Sox was a mistake and cited money as his primary motive. In the end, he just didn't believe it was a good fit."I think that's the truth," Crawford said. "It just wasn't the right place for me at the end of my day. I didn't do my homework. Maybe they didn't, either."At the end of the day, it just wasn't the place for me."Crawford, a .292 career hitter, admits that he didn't earn his stripes during his time with the Red Sox, and he doesn't hold a grudge against them for being traded."I get it, I didn't perform," he said. "I got the money. I didn't perform. I gave them every reason."Via CBS Sports
