It was announced by the Red Sox today that outfielder Carl Crawford will seek a second opinion for his injured elbow. Crawford, who is currently on the disabled list recovering from surgery on his left wrist, injured the elbow a few weeks ago and was checked out in Boston and found to have what the Red Sox called a “strain.”
Crawford will visit renowned sports physician Dr. James Andrews for his second opinion and, though Bobby Valentine insists that it isn’t “anything serious,” it is growing increasingly unlikely that we’ll see Crawford in major league action before June.
“He’s been a little concerned about his elbow, so he’s probably going to get a second opinion,” Bobby Valentine said. “He’s feeling so good with his hitting and his wrist right now that he doesn’t want to have any setbacks.”
Crawford has been playing in extended spring training games in Florida recently, but only as a DH.
This appears to be just another setback in the young but disappointing Red Sox career of Crawford. The outfielder signed a seven-year, $142 million contract with Boston before the 2011 season, which turned out to be the worst of his career.
Crawford and much of Red Sox Nation were hoping that 2012 would be a bounce-back year for the 30-year-old outfielder, but obviously injuries have gotten in the way of that so far.
