Legend of the Fall: Beltran Continues His Quest

The heroics of Carlos Beltran in the month of October are nothing new. He ranks in the top 10 nearly every major postseason category that an individual can find himself in. However, in last night’s game one of the National League Championship Series, he had his signature effort as a Cardinal during the season’s final month. In the process he single-handedly carried the team to...

Watch Beltran's 10th-inning assist

Is Carlos Beltran the new Mr. October? There's no doubt the 16-year vetran outfielder was the star of the Cardinals' 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Dodgers in Friday's NLCS opener in St. Louis. Beltran not only hit the game-winning, walk-off RBI single in the 13th to beat LA, the St. Louis right fielder knocked in all three of the Cardinals' runs -- his two-run...

Beltran delivers epic performance in Game 1 of NLCS

ST. LOUIS -- The difference in the Cardinals' 3-2, 13-inning, four-hour, 47-minute victory over the Dodgers Friday night was very simple: The Cardinals had Carlos Beltran. The Dodgers did not. For all of Beltran's postseason brilliance, he never has made more of an impact on one game than he did with three monumental plays in the opener of this National League Championship...

Beltran leads Cards over LA in Game 1

Carlos Beltran capped his latest scintillating postseason performance with an RBI single in the 13th inning early Saturday that lifted the St. Louis Cardinals over the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 in the NL championship series opener. Beltran hit a tying, two-run double in the third inning, then threw out a runner at the plate from right field in the 10th to keep it even. Well past...

Carlos Beltran Comes Up Big in Game 1 of the NLCS

It's a good thing Game 1 of the NLCS was played on a Friday night. I can't imagine folks staying up to watch all 13 innings and still have to get up in the morning! Those that stayed up to enjoy the game Friday night were treated to a great performance by Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran and the rest of the boys from St. Louis. @cjzero/Twitter Beltran was...

Beltran, Cards top LA 3-2 in 13 in NLCS opener

Everything Carlos Beltran does looks effortless. St. Louis Cardinals teammates joke that it's like he's from another world. ''It's like you've got to put a mirror under his nose to check if he's breathing, he's so calm, cool and relaxed,'' leadoff man Matt Carpenter said after Beltran delivered another big October performance in a 3-2, 13...

Carlos Beltran is the difference maker in a Phenomenal NLCS Game One

[Box Score] Yea, so that game was unbelievable last night. I think the game was just a preview of what we’re going to see all series long, and I wouldn’t count the Dodgers out of this yet. Here are my thoughts on the game, as I watched all 13 innings until the bitter end: Carlos Beltran owned the night. He had the 2-run double that tied the game. He had the unreal throw from...

Carlos Beltran Continues Postseason Dominance In Game 1 Of NLCS

The opening game of the National League Championship Series got off to a start that many predicted, with the St. Louis Cardinals defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 in 13 innings. We told you yesterday that it would be a low-scoring affair. We told you pitching would be a major factor. And we also told you that Don Mattingly would be an x-factor. All of those came true. And with...

Beltran's hit wins Game 1 for Cards in 13th

Carlos Beltran who tied the game in the third inning with a two-run double won it more than three hours later with a one-out run-scoring single in the 13th inning to give the Cardinals a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League championship series last night/this morning at Busch Stadium. Beltran who also threw out a runner at home in the 10th inning...

Beltran's stature key for Cardinals

Carlos Beltran drove in all of the Cardinals' runs in a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series; the last came on his walk-off single in the 13th, an opportunity the Cardinals had because of Beltran's laser throw to nab Mark Ellis at the plate three innings earlier.

Cardinals' battle cry (more or less): Win one for Carlos!

ST. LOUIS -- Only seven players who will suit up for the Cardinals in the NLCS made the postseason roster when the club won the World Series in 2011. Those who have earned their rings often talk about how they want to win a championship for all those who haven't. But there is one player they mention far more than any other. That would be veteran right fielder Carlos Beltran...

Death. Taxes. Beltran.

Go crazy, folks! Go crazy! Some people live for the big game.  Joe Montana saved his best efforts for the many NFC Championship Games and Super Bowls he won.  Michael Jordan was excellent at sinking clutch shots and the spirits of opposing teams in his six NBA Finals victories.  (I’m a Utah Jazz fan.  I should know.)  And then there’s one Carlos Ivan Beltran. Carlos Beltran...

NLCS Game 1: Cardinals outlast Dodgers for 3-2 win in 13 innings

As Joe Lucia wrote last week, Carlos Beltran is a freak in October. As talented and productive as the Cardinals outfielder is during the regular season, he rises to the moment during the postseason.  We saw the latest example of that during the Cards' 3-2 victory over the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS on Friday. (Actually, depending on where you watched, the game ended on...

This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: Root For The Mole, Not The Cardinals Edition

Before the post season started, a few people asked me which two teams I predicted would meet in the World Series. I calmly responded that I hoped it would come down to the Pirates and the Athletics. Well as we know predictions are like opinions – everybody has one, and of course mine were wrong. So now that we are down to the final four teams, I will have to hold my nose and...
