Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran said that he would  participate in the Home Run Derby this year if asked. - Photo  courtesy of Getty Images St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran has been better than advertised during his first season in St. Louis.  After signing a two year, $26 million contract last winter to come to St. Louis, the often-injured outfielder has managed to stay healthy and has produced more than plenty at the plate. Beltran collected three more hits in Wednesday night's 1-0 win over the Chicago White Sox and hit his National League leading nineteenth home run to help propel the Cardinals to victory. Beltran's sweet switch-hitting swing has translated well at Busch Stadium.  Beltran is on pace to break his career high of 41 home runs he hit in 2006 as a member of the New York Mets.  His power stroke has certainly been on display in 2012 and the Cardinals have needed every one of his long balls. When asked if he would accept an invitation to ...

Coaches excited to rejoin La Russa in dugout

ST. LOUIS Tony La Russa is getting the band back together again. At least for a July night in Kansas City. As the manager of last year's World Series champion Cardinals, the retired La Russa will manage the National League squad in the July 10 All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium. And Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that La Russa's entire coaching staff from the...

How often did the Cardinals score so few despite so many hits?

It is rough enough that the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the visiting Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, but seeing the many missed scoring opportunities made it all the worse. The Cardinals offense plated just one run despite rapping out 11 hits. Adam Wainwright pitched well for St. Louis, but took the loss primarily due to the lack of cover from the hitters. (Shane Robinson,...

Beltran makes history with 300 homers, steals

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Carlos Beltran became the first switch hitter in major league history to record 300 home runs and 300 steals when he stole second against the Kansas City Royals. Top Cardinals draft pick signs contract

The right-pitcher from Texas A&M was the No. 19 overall pick in the draft. The Cardinals Second Base Options

The Cardinals have had many problems this season, ranging from bullpen issues to the plethora of injuries. One of the biggest holes is at second base. Coming into the season, this was a known issue, but the team decided to have a competition between former first round pick Tyler Greene and utility man Dan Descalso. Neither player appeased most of the fans (granted, there was the...

Royals-Cardinals Preview

(AP) -- Despite having their most productive hitter sidelined because of a stomach virus, the St. Louis Cardinals broke out of their prolonged slump in their last game. Carlos Beltran is expected to return Friday night for what would be his first game against the visiting Kansas City Royals - the team that drafted him 17 years ago - in the season's first installment of the I...

A tale of two teams

In listening to the post game press conference it is obvious something is off with this team. And Cardinals manager Mike Matheny sees it to. “You could see one team with a lot of confidence and the way they walk onto the field and the way they play the game, and I think you’re seeing a team on the other field that’s not so much,” he said following  the Cardinals’ 6-1 loss...
