North Side Notch:
McGehee has a mild left groin strain #Pirates
— Michael Waterloo (@MichaelWaterloo) July 8, 2012
Hopefully it doesn’t force Casey McGehee to miss any time. If you are going to have a “mild” injury, I guess the best time to do that is with a 10-0 lead in the last game before the All-Star Break.
McGehee came up limping after drilling a two-run single into the North Side Notch. It was clearly visible something was wrong as soon as he broke out of the box. McGehee is hitting .252/.328/.408 and has really been hitting the ball well over the past month.

— Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) July 7, 2012
Matt Hague has been recalled after playing well in the International League since his last demotion. In his eight games since being optioned on June 27th, he was 11 for 35 (.314) with three doubles and a home run.
Eric Fryer goes...
Final: Pirates 3, Giants 1
WP: James McDonald (9-3, 2.37 ERA)
LP: Ryan Vogelsong (7-4, 2.36 ERA)
SV: Joel Hanrahan (23, 2.38 ERA)
James McDonald turned in perhaps his best pitching performance of the season today holding the Giants to just one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out ten batters and did not walk anyone.
The Pirates scored their three runs thanks to RBI...
PITTSBURGH - The Pirates could be forgiven for wanting no part of any break, All-Star or otherwise. Neil Walker went 5-for-5, Andrew McCutchen blasted two more home runs, and A.J. Burnett won his 10th game in Pittsburgh's 13-2 blowout of San Francisco on Sunday at PNC Park. That sent the Pirates, whose streak of 19 consecutive losing seasons is a professional sports record...

Final: Pirates 13, Giants 2
WP: A.J. Burnett (10-2, 3.68 ERA)
LP: Tim Lincecum (3-10, 6.42 ERA)
Man, what an amazing way to cap off the first half of the season. Outside of Casey McGehee‘s groin injury, this was as good a game as you can see.
A.J. Burnett rolled through six innings giving up just two hits. He gave up a two-run homer in the seventh before exiting, but the game was...
Andrew McCutchen hit two home runs, Neil Walker homered among his five hits and the Pittsburgh Pirates entered the All-Star break in sole possession of first place following a 13-2 win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
The long-woeful Pirates have won six of seven and 10 of 12, and no team in the majors has a better record since May 12 than Pittsburgh's 34-19.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are the best team in the National League Central with a one game lead at the break over the Reds. The Pirates beat the San Francisco Giants 13-2 in the teams last game before the All-Star break. Neil Walker had a great day at the plate, Walker went 5 for 5 with 2 R.B.I.’s and he alone accounted for 4 of the 13 runs the Pirates scored. Andrew McCutchen the...
We’ve made it to the All-Star break without losing one Pirates fan from jumping off the Clemente Bridge – unless you count the Daniel Moskos fans. If anything, the Buccos have gained fans and their bandwagon is overflowing with yinzers who are finally starting to believe that Sid Bream’s curse isn’t going to turn 20 this year. Half way through the season, the Pirates...
It’s hardly even a surprise anymore: AJ Burnett shut down the other team’s offense while the Pirates’ offense scored a lot of runs. Today’s 13-2 win over the Giants is what we’re getting used to. ”We were good all over the board today,” Clint Hurdle said after the game. ”Just a good finish.” Burnett pitched [...]
