Found October 19, 2012 on Sliding Into Home:
From Marc Carig:The moment he released the pitch, a look of disgust swept over the face of CC Sabathia. The desperate Yankees needed something close to perfection from their ace. But he had just made another mistake, one that Miguel Cabrera turned into a two-run homer and a 4-0 lead. Sabathia winced. It was all he could do as the Tigers pounded him in an 8-1 victory that clinched a sweep of the American League Championship Series. "It's embarrassing to come out and not give my team a chance to win," Sabathia said. "I pride myself on trying to give us a chance and I didn't do that tonight." ... Sabathia insisted that his left elbow, which landed him on the disabled list this season, gave him no problems. "It felt good," he said. "It felt good enough to pitch tonight." Still, general manager Brian Cashman said the Yankees intend to take no chances. "Let's put it this way, we're going to look at that elbow, no doubt about it," Cashman said. "That will be on the list of things we have to look at now that the offseason's here. Whether he wants to or not, we're going to go look into this thing and make sure everything's OK." ... I was terrible today," Sabathia said. "Didn't make pitches. Changeup was a non-factor, fastball command at the end wasn't good."Out of everyone on the team, CC is the last that deserves any blame. This series was over after game 3, maybe even game 2, and the blame should sit squarely on the hitters.

The assumption right now is that...

Yankees Injury News: C.C. Sabathia Will Have Elbow Checked Out

C.C. Sabathia was both dominant and horrible in the 2012 postseason.  Such is the case when a team must battle through adversity and keep their intensity level at its highest point for a month.  The New York Yankees were swept out of the American League Championship Series two days ago by the Detroit Tigers.  This was with Sabathia on the hill.  Sabathia struggled, and the Yankees...

Yankees ALCS Game 4: Tigers eliminate Yankees

New York Yankees 1 — Detroit Tigers 8   The Yankees season comes to an end in tonight’s 8-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers.   CC Sabathia took the mound in tonight’s potential elimination game. The Yankees ace was not able to give the Yankees a quality effort. Sabathia’s start didn’t go well from the beginning when Delmon Young got the Tigers an early 1-0 lead in the 1st...

CC Sabathia 'Concerned' About Pitching Elbow, Dr. James Andrews to Examine

NEW YORK -- Yankees ace CC Sabathia will have his pitching elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews following inflammation that landed him on the disabled list in August. An MRI showed a bone spur in the left elbow and the Yankees believe it has existed since he pitched for the Cleveland Indians from 2001-08. "Yeah, you have to be concerned, because like I'...

Tigers could benefit from rainout because Yankees don't

The rain that poured onto Comerica Park on Wednesday night, shortly after Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between Detroit and the visiting New York Yankees was postponed by threatening weather, could wind up dampening the Yankees' parade much more than the Tigers'. And manager Joe Girardi might find himself wondering why he didn't gamble and pitch...

Postponement favors Tigers in ALCS

The Detroit Tigers didn't win the American League pennant Wednesday night. But strategically speaking, they won the rainout. When Major League Baseball postponed Game 4 until Thursday, the Tigers benefited in two ways: CC Sabathia will no longer be available to pitch a potential Game 7 for the New York Yankees, and Detroit reliever Phil Coke -- who temporarily ascended to the...

Reggie Jackson: Cabrera clearly the MVP

DETROIT Reggie Jackson says he doesnt see a debate where the AL MVP award is concerned. MVP conversations are for people who dont understand the game, Jackson said Wednesday at Comerica Park. Thoughts From A Dejected Yankee Fan

This postseason has been interesting to say the least. About two weeks ago, I would have told you that the Yankees were going to sweep the Orioles in the ALDS. Their ace was pitching Game 1; the winningest pitcher in postseason history was going in Game 2, followed by their most consistent pitcher all season in Game 3. As we now know, the Yankees-Orioles series wasn’t that easy...

Tweet     Miguel Cabrera, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Phil Coke, and company made quick work of the Yankees in the ALCS. Detroit Tigers find post season success with unlikely names

The great thing about post season baseball is any player on the expanded roster has the chance to play the role of hero. Fans of theDetroit Tigers expect Justin Verlander to be dominant and that Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder will be the big bats that score the runs and smash the home runs.
