Six-time All-Star and former Cy Young Award winner, CC Sabathia was placed back on the 15 day disabled list on Saturday.
According to a repot from the New York Daily News, Sabathia began to feel pain in his left elbow two days following a win over the Seattle Mariners. He then experienced inflammation in the same elbow subsequent to his start on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers; ultimately resulting in the decision to place him on the 15 day DL.
This will be the New York Yankees’ ace second trip to the DL this season.
Sabathia is having yet another All-Star caliber season; bad left elbow and all. This second trip to the DL, after just five starts from returning back into the rotation, has to frustrate his fantasy owners.
However, he should return before the end of the month, so time away from action will hopefully be limited to the 15 days. He was scheduled to start this coming Monday against the Texas Rangers, but right hander David Phelps will apparently get the gig.
Sabathia (12-3) has a 3.56 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, with 140 strikeouts in 141.2 innings pitched this year. Keep your fingers crossed that this injury does not plague him into September.
