Washington National's closer Chad Cordero missed his first potential save opportunity for the 2008 season because he was sore warming up. We explain why and what this means for his fantasy value and what to do in the meantime.

  • Would you ALREADY get rid of Cordero to pick up Rauch? "The Chief" is not even on the DL yet! Unless your league allows UNLIMITED roster moves, I'd say that RIGHT NOW, it'd be a waste. Especially considering how shaky and unreliable Rauch is as a middle-reliever, let alone as closer...
  • Some good points and maybe I should have been more clear. I never said to drop Cordero, I just said add Rauch for the short term. If Cordero winds up spending time on the DL you'll be able to hide him there for a few weeks at least. He has be diagnosed with tendinitis and that can be a tricky injury to deal with. As we said, there was plenty of evidence to suggest there might be something to this.
Rauch maybe shakey, but he is consistently one of the highest ranked Holds guys in the league and for any team. those are generally the guys who get first crack at closing.
  • We never said to get rid of Cordero in favor of Rauch. We are just pointing out Cordero's injury and the guy in the Nationals' pen who would benefit the most if The Chief misses time. Fantasy baseball is a daily activity folks, if Rauch is a save option for any amount of time its noteworthy.
  • Thanks for the heads up. Sorry if it came across to you as criticism of your opinion. It wasn't meant to be, as you're SHARING news and insight to the 'Pound! :)

p.s. Just picked up KC closer Joakim Soria on waivers. Safer than Rauch! (wink)
  • Now Soria move is a good deal and we'll agree he is much better than Jon Rauch!
