Christmas is ten days away, the stove is boiling and I am toiling. The signing of Josh Hamilton appears to have amped up the heat this winter and those waiting to sign are going to get it moving soon. So, let’s just get down to the BRASS TACKS and go on a little rambling adventure … or just make a flurry of disjointed, yet hopefully timely remarks. By Brian McCabe · It is currently 7:21 CST Thursday evening. In the past two hours I have been totally sure that Anibal Sanchez had both signed with the Cubs and not signed with the Cubs. · My best pal made this comment recently, but it rings true yet again … “Why does it always seem like the Cubs impending signings and trades never actually happen?” · This is eerily similar to the Marmol for Haren report. Everyone was sure that would happen, and they reported as such. It didn’t happen. · And this is not the journalists’ fault. Most of the transactions they report actually happen. The Cubs seems to have their own way. So be it. · The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles should have very good baseball teams. · Marmol for Bourjos. Sure. Of course. Marmol for Trumbo. Sure. Marmol for … sure. Trumbo is not being dealt, but I would welcome Bourjos to the Cubs. · Your thoughts on Bourjos? Please let us know below. · I am totally fine if they don’t trade the ‘Fonz. As Heyman tweeted Thursday, they are willing to pay $26 of the $$36 million, but they need a reputable prospect in return. If they don’t get one, don’t throw away the money. · I believe it was Olney that tweeted this, but the Astros are going to have a ROUGH time in the AL West. They could lose 14 of 15 to the Angels. · The Rangers just lost Josh Hamilton and the Soto was named the everyday catcher. Tough day in Arlington. Though, somehow, I am sure they will end up in the Series again. Geo will have 32 jacks. · Ryan Dempster is ageless. Another $26.5 million for him. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. · I now apologize to everyone who was subjected to reading that old, expired and irrelevant saying. I am really not sure I can truly convey how sorry I really am. · The Cubs signed a Korean pitcher with 18 years of experience who won’t play until 2014 because of elbow problems. · Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo and Juliette Lewis in “Old Navy” commercials with the “Christmas Vacation” angle … Speechless. And in a sad way. · Anibal wants to stay in Detroit. The Cubs are getting played. So be it. These things happen, and I find it hard to fault McThoyer. Hard to avoid. · Going after Anibal at that price shows they are not completely against signing quality players and spending money. Win or lose on Sanchez, fine, but there seems to be a little more life in the Front Office right now than I thought. · And more than a lot of people thought. · Beyond all of the free agent mess, here is the question for discussion, among so many other things, but I want to know: · Who is your “step-up” Cubs player of next season? Not necessarily a surprise, but who steps up? Like Darwin did this year. Is there anyone on this team that can do it next year. I say Castillo. What say you? And that is it for another session of ramblings. Hopefully these are the impetus for some great discussion on a Friday. Most importantly, I want to wish you and yours a happy, enjoyable and safe holiday season. Cheers … and until next time … Stay Classy Cubs Fans!!
