Chicago Cubs OF Saves Game and Does Something Not Done in Baseball Since 2021

The Chicago Cubs have won seven straight games and nine of their last 10. In doing so, they've moved above .500 at 52-51 and have pulled to within 3.5 games of the National League wild card. They are also just 4.5 games back in the National League Central.

For a team that has been thought of as sellers at the looming trade deadline, maybe the front office has changed its tune.

The Cubs win on Friday night over the St. Louis Cardinals was incredible as Cubs outfielder Mike Tauchman robbed a potential game-winning home run.

This is the first robbery to prevent a walk-off homer since 2021 and the fifth such robbery in the last five seasons. The Cubs are over .500 for the first time since being 17-16 through games on May 6.

The 32-year-old Tauchman has found a home in Chicago this year. He's hitting .261 with five home runs and 33 RBI as he gets more playing time than he ever has before. His 212 at-bats this season are already the second-most of any season in his career. He's in his sixth year with the Rockies, Yankees, Giants and Cubs and is a lifetime .238 hitter.

The Cubs and Cardinals play again on Saturday night as Jameson Taillon (CHC) pitches against Adam Wainwright.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium.
