Chicago White Sox continued their offensive woes while scoring only four runs in a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays. Josh Phegley was called up from Triple-A Charlotte to help bolster the struggling Sox offense.  Phegley drove in three of the White Sox four runs during the Tampa Bay series including a solo home run on Sunday which was the Sox lone run. Can Josh Phegley seize control of the White Sox catching job? If Phegley continues to show an ability to drive in runs, expect to see him in the lineup more often than Tyler Flowers, who has struggled at the plate with a .205 batting average and eight home runs this season. During this series, the White Sox left 19 runners on base and went 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position as a team.  Three of the four hits came in game one on Friday, where the Sox scored three runs but gave up eight. The White Sox also continue to squander quality pitching performances as seen on Saturday, by Chris Sale, and Sunday, by John Danks.  Chris Sale pitched seven innings on Saturday while only giving up three runs (two earned), yet the Sox were stymied by Matt Moore who earned his 12th win of the season.  Sale, on the other hand, saw his record drop to 5-8. John Danks saw himself as the hard luck loser on Sunday after giving up three earned runs on Sunday, while his offense squandered eight hits to score once on the previously mentioned home run by Phegley. Runs have been so hard for the White Sox to come by that they rank 29th in the majors with 312 and 29th in RBIs only ahead of the lowly Miami Marlins in both categories.  Maybe Phegley can help these overall numbers but he’s not going to be able to do it by himself and time is running out for many other Sox players as the non-waiver trade deadline looms at the end of July.
