Now that the ticker-tape has been swept away and the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks are beginning to recede from the collective consciousness of the city, the focus returns to the misery of baseball.  And the White Sox had one miserable day. The good news is that the Chicago White Sox scored 18 runs in a double-header on Friday.  The bad news is that they gave up 28 runs to the Cleveland Indians and were swept in the double-dip and then lost the next two games to boot. The White Sox offense showed up for the double-header, but unfortunately the pitching staff did not.  The first game began with a bang when the White Sox jumped all over young Trevor Bauer who was lifted after recording only two outs in the first and surrendering five runs.  However, the Indians struck back with five runs of their own in the second and everything began to snowball from there with the Indians striking for six more in the fourth and recording a total of 19 runs in the game. Reed’s struggles epitomized the staff’s woes during this series Later that night after a slight rain delay, the Sox found themselves behind early in the first but rallied back to claim a 8-5 lead heading into the ninth.  Addison Reed entered the game looking to close out the game for the Southsiders and salvage the night cap for the home team.  Unfortunately for the fans in attendance, Reed blew the save and the lead after a Nick Swisher solo shot to right followed by a one-walk and three-strikeout save by Vinnie Pestano in the ninth. On Saturday the White Sox scored three runs which wasn’t enough to over come the four scored by Cleveland.  Chris Sale pitched eight decent innings on Sunday but found himself hooked for the loss after giving up three runs and the bullpen surrendering an additional run in the ninth.  Credit Cleveland’s Justin Masterson for pitching a complete game shut-out and not allowing a White Sox runner to get to second until the seventh inning. White Sox bats went 0-for-3  with runners in scoring position with Alex Rios going 0-for-2 and Adam Dunn striking out on his only opportunity.  If the Inidans series is any barometer, it’s going to be a very long summer for White Sox fans, especially as the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin to fade from the sports consciousness of Chicago.
