Addison Reed continues to put together a dominant 2013 season. The Chicago White Sox continued their winning ways this week sweeping the Kansas City Royals earlier in the week and winning two out of three from the Texas Rangers during the weekend. The White Sox had the longest current winning streak in the majors heading into Friday, August 23 at six games.  With Chris Sale on the mound, it looked as if the Sox would get their seventh in a row.  Sale, however, had a very rare bad outing which resulted in the young lefty throwing a tantrum in the dug out.  Sale pitched seven innings and surrendered eight runs on eight hits, four of which were home runs.  Ranger’s second-baseman Ian Kinsler hit an inside the park home run during the game. However, despite Sale’s poor showing on Friday, Sox pitchers were tremendous for the week allowing at most three runs during the week besides Friday.  The Sox seems to be reveling being spoilers playing like one of the best teams in baseball in the last few weeks.  With five games remaining in August, the White Sox have compiled a 14-10 record so for during the month. Besides the heroics of Sox starting pitchers this week, Addison Reed closed the door in the ninth for four of the six games this week.  Reed is quietly becoming one of the most consistent and dominant closers in baseball for the White Sox.  He has 35 saves so far after Sunday’s action with five blown saves for the 24-year-old reliever. Next week features the White Sox hosting the Houston Astros Monday through Wednesday.  The Astros have been playing relatively competitive baseball lately.  Following the Astros series, the White Sox will travel to Boston to take on the Red Sox at Fenway, which will begin a 10-game road trip where the White Sox will tour the AL East.  With the Sox playing spoiler, this could be a prime opportunity to continue their winning ways against playoff hopefuls.
