Atlanta Braves future Hall-of-Fame third baseman, Chipper Jones, should probably reconsider retiring at the end of the season; especially following his performance last night.
Jones homered twice, racking up three RBI, helping his club trounce the San Diego Padres 6-0 in Atlanta. Jones’ play at the plate, all but over shadowed pitcher, Kris Medlen, who pitched a gem in a complete game shutout. All of this fitting, given that it was Chipper Jones bobble-head night at Turner Field.
Jones, 40, is having a fine year batting .315/.391/.519 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI.
Last night’s display confirmed that Jones is feeling comfortable in his final weeks before retiring after the season. With the Braves four games back of the NL East leading Washington Nationals, expect Atlanta to lean more and more on Chipper through the rest of August and all of September. Keep him rolling in your lineup and hope he continues his hot play as the year wraps up.
The Braves open up a weekend series at home today against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
