Orlando, Fla. There are few problems to find on the Braves roster, at least on paper. As manager Fredi Gonzalez makes his way through spring training with his new-look lineup, formidable rotation and top-of-the-line bullpen, the few remaining position battles have made themselves clear: third base and the final one or two bench spots. That's really it. The Braves look to be one of the more complete teams in baseball, which means there are fewer open spots available for some of the younger players. Before bolting out of Orlando, Zach Dillard and Cory McCartney sat down to discuss spring training highlights, cold press boxes, the final bench spots, intriguing bullpen arms, the Water Skiing Hall of Fame and Dinosaur World. Here are a few of the key topics: -- Could Joey Terdoslavich, Evan Gattis or Tyler Pastornicky claim a bench spot once Braves catcher Brian McCann returns from shoulder surgery? -- Is the bullpen set with Christian Martinez, Luis Avilan and Cory Gearrin sett...

McCann making progress in shoulder rehab

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. Brian McCann took some light swings with a bat, chatting up a member of the Braves medical staff and his teenage son about their golf games as the catcher bided his time, waited to take batting practice at Champions Stadium. In the distance the team charter bus transporting McCanns teammates to another spring training game pulled off, leaving the rehabbing...

Andrelton Simmons is still an awesome defender

Check out this play from Netherlands shortstop Andrelton Simmons during their WBC matchup with Cuba last night. With one out in the top of the second inning, Cuban shortstop Erisbel Arruebarruena hit a pop up into shallow center field on the second base side of the bag. Simmons comes from out of nowhere at his shortstop position to make a sliding catch, calling off center fielder...

Braves shopping Jonny Venters?

The Braves have arguably the best bullpen in the major leagues but they could be open to trading some of that depth. Jonny Venters, 27, could be available on the trade block. There is “talk among scouts” that the Braves will listen to all trade offers for the left handed reliever, at-least according to Ken Rosenthal. Venters had a 3.22 ERA and 69/28 K/BB ratio in 58 2/3 innings...

Chipper Jones is Having The Best Week Ever

It's been a good week for Chipper Jones. Tuesday, the former Atlanta Braves star was honored by the Georgia House of Representatives as a resolution, sponsored by Representative Sam Teasley, was passed proclaiming March 5, 2013 as "Chipper Jones Day" in the state.  And on Friday, the 1999 National League MVP dropped this subtle hint via Twitter. Suffice...

O'Flaherty ready to shine for NL's best bullpen

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. When it comes to MLB 13: The Show, Eric O'Flaherty isnt one to hide his disdain. It's not just that with a player rating of 83, the video game has the Braves setup man as the lowest-ranked member of the bullpen, trailing Craig Kimbrel (99), Jonny Venters (87) and Jordan Walden (85). The left-hander's biggest beef lies with what he throws, and...

No. No No NO NO NONOOOOOOOOOO

Talk among scouts that #Braves will listen on Venters. Braves, though, say they love depth in their bullpen, including 3 LHs with Avilan. — Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) March 6, 2013 I can't. No. Stop talking about this. Jonny Venters is my favorite Brave and we CAN'T lose him. (I don't want to hear pragmatic statements about the good of the team. Those comments...
