Chris Ray -- the relief pitcher who was dealt to the San Francisco Giants for Bengie Molina last summer -- has signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners with an invitation to Spring Training.
The right-hander was used pretty sparingly by the Giants after the Jul. 1 trade, but was instrumental in the team's world championship run nonetheless. After all, moving Molina paved the way for Buster Posey to become the full-time catcher in San Francisco. Posey went on to win the NL Rookie of the Year award.
Ray, 29, appeared in 63 games for the Giants and Texas Rangers last season after four seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. He went a combined 5-0 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.311 WHIP and struck out 31 batters in 55.5 innings while converting two of four save opportunities.
The Giants non-tendered him after the season.
