The Diamondbacks have played extremely over the course of the past two months to propel them in front of the Giants for first place in the NL West. The starting pitching and bullpen have been fantastic and several offensive players have keyed Arizona’s great play, but Chris Young for the most part hasn’t been one of them.
At one point during the middle of June, the Diamondbacks centerfielder had his average at a respectable .261, well above his career average, but it has plummeted in recent months. Just last week, CY had his average all the way down to .225, reminding us of the horrific season that he had a few years back where he was eventually sent down to Triple A.
Things were so bad for Young with the bat that at one point that Kirk Gibson decided to sit Young for a couple of games in order to clear his head. This is usually a guy who very rarely gets a day off, whether he is struggling or not.
