Nationals right handed relief pitcher Cla Meredith underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday. The surgery was performed by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih who also assisted in the surgery on Stephen Strasburg.
Meredith first starting having pains two weeks ago while throwing in his first bullpen session this spring. At the time Meredith who had bone chips removed from his elbow this off season hoped it was just scar tissue in the elbow breaking up.
Meredith took some time off from throwing but felt pain again on Friday while playing catch. After getting an MRI done the results showed that a season ending Tommy John surgery would be needed.
Meredith was signed by the Nationals in February to a minor league deal and was invited to Spring Training.
