Ho hum. Another week, another magnificent performance from Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz that earned him Amica Pitcher of the Week honors. This week’s efforts might have garnered some controversy after Blue Jays analysts — and former MLB pitchers — Jack Morris and Dick Hayhurst accused Buchholz of using a spitball or scuffball, but it was also one of his best of the season. The Red Sox’ starter threw seven innings of scoreless baseball with eight strikeouts. He allowed just two hits and three walks. The outing lowered his season ERA to 1.01 and his WHIP to 0.96. He’s 6-0 on the season and leads the AL in wins, ERA and pitching WAR. Buchholz is set to take on the Twins at Fenway Park on Monday. The Red Sox will face off against Vance Worley as Buchholz tries to grab his seventh win in as many starts.

Clay Buchholz Needs to Play Role of Stopper, Help Red Sox ‘Turn the Page’ on Rough Patch

The expression “turn the page” is cliché, boring, annoying and very much applicable to the Red Sox. Boston dropped all three games of its weekend series in Texas, and the club will now return to the friendly confines of Fenway Park in a much different state than when it left. Fortunately for the Sox, they’ll have this season’s best pitcher on the bump when they open up a...

Visually Comparing Clay Buchholz, 2012-2013

Greetings FanGraphs readers, I am Drew Sheppard, and if you recognize my name it is probably from the Yu Darvish pitch selection GIF that made the rounds last week. Over the coming months, it is my goal to use similar techniques to put a visual spin on some of the information FanGraphs has always provided, including but not limited to similar pitcher breakdowns. Today I will be...

Clay Buchholz Accused of Doctoring Baseball by Toronto Broadcaster Dirk Hayhurst, Pitcher Denies Allegations

Clay Buchholz is off to a fantastic start this season. How’s he been rewarded? Well, he’s been named American League Pitcher of the Month for April, but he’s also facing some serious allegations up in Toronto. Broadcaster Dirk Hayhurst, who is also the author of The Bullpen Gospels, took to Twitter on Wednesday night, and he accused Buchholz of doctoring the baseball. Hayhurst...

Buchholz can match the best start by a Boston pitcher since 2007 as he tries to become baseball's first seven-game winner in the opener of a four-game set against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway...

Buchholz and Dempster solid starts highlight series win vs. Jays

In what seemed like a series dominated by the Boston Red Sox pitching against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Sox continued their winning ways by taking two out three from Toronto. After dropping the first game of the series on Tuesday night 9-7, the Red Sox solid pitching quieted the Jays bats over the next two nights. The highlight of the series was the dominating starts of Clay...

Farrell upset by Buchholz allegations

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell is upset by accusations pitcher Clay Buchholz was putting a foreign substance on the ball during Wednesday's victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Former major league pitcher Dirk Hayhurst, now a broadcast analyst for the Blue Jays, told Toronto radio station Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Thursday that Buchholz was ''absolutely''...

Papi weighs in on Buchholz

David Ortiz has been with the Red Sox for all the ups and downs of the past ten years. He helped the Sox win two World Series. He suffered through the 2003 ALCS, the 2011 September collapse, the beer and chicken fiasco, and Bobby Valentine's managing. With everything that he's done for the team, his opinion really matters. He's like an unofficial team leader. So naturally...

Kevin Millar Weighs in on Allegations Made Against Clay Buchholz, Says ‘I’m on Eck’s Side’

Come on. You already knew whose side Kevin Millar would be on, right? Millar made his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Mut & Merloni on Friday, and one of the topics discussed was the recent allegations against Clay Buchholz. Toronto broadcasters Dirk Hayhurst and Jack Morris accused Buchholz of doctoring the baseball during his start against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, which prompted...

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: The Week in Review

The Good: Clay Buchholz is named AL Pitcher of the Month, dominates the Blue Jays and causes an international incident that...

A second generation of idiots

They have pine tar on their helmets again, and there’s not a clean uniform in the bunch. Half of the Red Sox seem to have forgotten that their jerseys have a top button and wear their pants about three sizes too large. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Clay Buchholz have some crazy heads of hair. And the beards. The glorious beards. Even early in the season, it’s hard not to look at...
