First of all, all of the hats that Major League Baseball will be wearing on the Fourth of July are rather offensive for sheer ugliness. But the Cleveland Indians hat that was originally released was something else:

Okay, let’s see. Offensive logo? Check. Covering offensive logo representing Native Americans with the Stars and Stripes? Check. Do a double-take because it kinda looks like a Blackface? Check.

According to Business Insider, Major League Baseball announced that New Era released the wrong hat (sure they did), and Cleveland will instead be wearing a hat with their block “C” logo on it instead.

This is a very similar incident to the one that MLB had with the offensive hat that the Atlanta Braves were planning to bring back prior to the season. Another one that MLB refused to take responsibility for.

  • I have always felt that logo is a foolish looking depiction of Native Americans. Forget that many do not like their images portrayed the way they are by some pro sports teams. The Chicago Blackhawks logo is one of the classiest logos in all of sports and portrays the tribe known as the Blackhawks as proud and fierce warriors. Unlike the Cleveland logo which is kind of cartoonish. To then slap the Stars over it is going too far.

Why don't you read into stuff before you just post random BS. Idiot. The Blackhawks are not named after a tribe. Also don't think its that classy as some, the person in that article, still find it somewhat offensive.
  • REALLY?!?!? Not named after a tribe? Have you even seen their logo?!? The 'Blackhawks' are what then, a brand of peanut butter? Look who is calling who an IDIOT! WOW!
  • Apparently you cannot read either... Also not sure why you think the logo makes them apart of a tribe? Its a picture of a man. Sheesh people these days.
  • You say something?
  • Hey loabloabsas, allow me to educate your dumb fuckiing asss. The Blackfoot tribe WAS an indian tribe in America and were occasionally referred to as Blackhawks as well. Sorry your too Fuckiing stupid to know that you moron!!!!
  • Yeah sorry ... Blackhawk was a warrior chief, actual name was Black Sparrow Hawk. Blackhawk in NOT the name of a tribe! As to the "foolish looking" part - can we please lighten up people - life is too short to be offended at everything that comes along.
  • I'm not offended by the Indians logo, just think it's goofy looking, while the Blackhawks logo is a proud depiction of a Native American Warrior. But you'll get an argument from this twit called loabloabsas. Peace straightarrow.
  • It's time for the "So-Called Native American Indians" to quit their whinning about a happy, smiley face "caricature". The only thing offensive are those who claim to be something they are not. It's the best "Logo Caricature" in all of sports!!
  • hey Floyd it's a pic of an indian with an offensive name attached it's like using your pic with the name hemriod Floyd under it I am the goat man and I curse cleveland they will never win a major sporting event as long as they continue to offend
  • give me a break!! I love the Cleveland Indian hats!! Liked it so much I called my sons little league team the Indians and used the Chief Wahoo on the hats!!
  • How about this? If you don't like it don't get the hat. Just because someone pipes up and says, "This offends me so you should stop this because is will make me feel better." doesn't mean I have to. Consider yourself offended & get over it.
  • It only looks that way to the fascist (__*__) .
  • congratulations MLB on being a bunch of gutless, spineless cowards bowing down just like every other ***** org. in this country to the almighty P.C. police.
  • dumb, du, dudumb... dumb, du, dudumb, dumb!
people seriously need to get a life!
  • It is only an offensive logo if your mine thinks of offensive ideas. I wish people would get their minds out of the gutter and think the best of one another instead of taking something and twisting it into something ugly.
  • who cares their ancestors gave America away,im black and I don't care anymore what peoples do or say, in regards to my race, so what!!!!!!!most of the time it not even negative
  • Who are the people who find all this stuff so offensive??? who has that kind of time on their hands? Anyone under fifty years old only thinks of the redskins as a football team. Let it go..wouldn't be an issue if people wouldn't make it one.
  • ah yes,in our politically correct world we live in,we must please all the people all the time.give me a break.im not a logo historian but clevelands "indian head"looks like a friendlier version of the old millwauke braves logo.it went to atlanta with the braves then got lost to a tomahawk.now that was a cool logo.i think from forquary plains tribe.they were short in stature.had to jump up in the air to see.hence the tribes name "where?"
  • Offensive??? It's time for the weapers to go home and play by theirselves. But if this is OK then I call for an end to the Dallas Cowboys, clearly an offense and embarrasment to cowboys. Oh, and they also have a star in their logo. Notre Dame needs to look for a logo that doesn't offend the Irish and intimidate the rest of the world. New England Patriots? Too close to Washington to loosly use the word 'Patriot'. And they have blue in their colors and I guess that is too close to being black. We could find fault with all of them if we try. Why don't we just change all the team names to numbers? But then, we might offend mathematicians. Can't win.
  • seriously ? nothing better to do than look for black face in an indians logo ???when did any white guy complain when the were on the Wheaties box
  • What is more offensive than the logo are these new era Gangster flat billed caps. Please bring back the true round bill adjustable caps. These flat billed caps make the person wearing them look stupid and gangster-like.
  • @ callofthemoon & bonzie.....

YES! Too funny! It's so true. You don't name your team after something to make fun it, you do it out of respect &/or admiration. If someone named their team after me & put a cartoon likeness of me on their uniform I'd be elated! It would be the greatest thing ever. With all the issues in the world today, people are worried about this? I'm offended that they are offended.....someone needs to stop them from offending me with their feelings of being offended! LOL...get real
  • I say, Chief Wahoo's face is red because he is probably drunk ...and he is smiling becasue he probably owns a casino and he is rich!

Give me a break, that logo is awesome. You know who cares about tje fact that it is not politically correct? People who are NOT EVEN AMERICAN INDIAN. It's just a cartoon mascot and because people cry about it, we have to have some stupid green "slider" mascot run around representing us instead of Chief Wahoo.

Should we forget about the Native Americans all together? I would rather have a cartoon version of me live on in major league sports then nothing at all.
  • Yes its a stupid looking hat without the stretch "it looks like blackface", but I doubt anyone designed it with intent to mock any Indians, it is simply a poor design. And really you American Indians still throwing down the "you stole our land, now you're mocking us" let it go. You have had pretty good reparations from the US government. I doubt if your people would have been left alone they would be in a better place than they are now.

Evan Gattis Should Be Playing Every Day

Let me first say that I think Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez is doing a great job this season.  Not that he needs my endorsement, the 7.5 game lead his Braves have in the National League East does all the talking. Now that I got that out-of-the-way, I think Evan Gattis should be  starting as many games as his body will physically allow him to play productively, and Jason...

The Diff: Update on top Cleveland Indians prospects

The Diff is your weekly Wednesday WFNY look into the amazing world of sports statistics. Amazingly, this is already the 20th one I’ve written here at the site. For a complete log of articles, click this link. Last week, The Diff looked deep into the stats of Nerlens Noel as the likely No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. This week, it’s back to my roots: Cleveland Indians prospect talk...

Chris Perez – Guilty Or Easy Target?

It’s pretty ridiculous that the world today gets their news from Twitter first. If you wanted, you could seemingly get a play by play of the entire game via the popular social media site. But just because someone tweets breaking news, doesn’t mean it’s credible…even if they are beat reporters for your favorite team. Twitter erupted yesterday with the news of the apparent...

Launching off with the Aeros: 5/28/13 – 6/3/13

The Akron Aeros won four of their six games over the past week and moved to 26-31 on the season. The team remains in fifth place in the Western Division -- six games out of first place -- though the Aeros began to climb out of the hole they dug by losing 12 of 15 from May 13-May 28. Manager Edwin Rodriguez was impressed with how his team played over the past week, particularly...

Chopcast: Teheran's near no-hitter signals next step

ATLANTA Julio Teheran came just four outs shy of providing one of the most memorable rookie pitching performances in recent memory. By going 7 23 innings without allowing a single hit to the Pirates, the 23-year-old flirted with the idea of becoming the 22nd rookie to ever throw a no-hitter and the first since Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz in 2007 versus the Orioles. It's...

Indians put SS Asdrubal Cabrera on 15-day DL

The Cleveland Indians put All-Star shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a strained right quadriceps, an injury that could sideline him for a month. Manager Terry Francona said Cabrera could miss three to four weeks, although he said that's merely a guess. Cabrera had to be helped off the field Monday night at Yankee Stadium after hurting...

Q&A: Mickey Callaway, Indians Pitching Coach

Mickey Callaway might be the MVP of the 2013 Cleveland Indians. The “P” in the acronym doesn’t stand for player — Callaway is the team’s pitching coach — but you get the point. The Indians came into the campaign with a pitching staff full of question marks. The majority of prognosticators panned the clubs’ chances of competing in the American League Central for that...

Asdrubal injured; Masterson roughed up in 7-4 loss in New York

This one wasn’t pretty. There are really two stories coming out of Cleveland’s 7-4 loss against the Yankees. The biggest will likely be the sprained quad suffered by Asdrubal Cabrera running to first in the fifth inning. Asdrubal has been nursing a sore right quad for weeks, choosing to try and play through the discomfort. Half-way down the line in the fifth, Cabrera stumbled...

Blue Rocks get to Pasquale, Mudcats lose 6-4

WILMINGTON – After falling behind early and attempting to claw back into it, the Carolina Mudcats couldn’t complete the rally as they fell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 6-4 on Wednesday night.  With the loss, Carolina fell a season-high 18 games under .500 at 20-38. Making his fifth start of the season with Carolina, starting pitcher Nick Pasquale started strong but struggled...

Hothead umpire ejects Mike Aviles from game that is already over

Dugout Digest - Teherantula

Atlanta Braves rookie Julio Teheran came four outs from a no-hitter on Wednesday. He threw 7 2/3 hitless innings against the Pirates before Brandon Inge lofted a single down the left field line to break up his attempt at immortality. It would have been the first no-hitter by a rookie since Clay Buchholz in September of 2005. Teheran still earned the win for the Braves in Atlanta...
