Cliff Lee is one out short of pitching a complete game as the Phils’ bats wake up to rout the Mets, winning 8-3. The Phils take the lead in the bottom of the second as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, John Mayberry Jr. hits a two-run double, knocking in Michael Young, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third base on Dom Brown’s single, and Brown, who had just singled, then moved up to second base on left fielder Lucas Duda’s throwing error, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, with Mayberry still on second base, and now with two men out, Cliff Lee helped his own cause with an RBI single to center, knocking in Mayberry, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. The Phils then made it a 4-0 lead two batters later, after Ben Revere had hit a single, moving Lee up to second base, as Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI double, scoring Lee, while sending Revere on to third base. The Phils added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Ryan Howard hits a lead-off home ...

Lee Continues To Cement His Awesomeness

I’ll never forget Cliff Lee‘s first start with the Phillies. He was just acquired from the Indians amidst a flurry of rumors that had the Phillies close to getting Roy Halladay. While his arrival carried excitement many fans couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed for missing out on Doc. I was one of those fans, having only seen Lee from afar, and having considered him...

Staff Ace Cliff Lee shuts down Mets

Cliff Lee has improved his record to 2-0 beating the N.Y. Mets at the Bank. But more importantly has stopped the Phillies losing ways for a second time. With Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay not getting past the fifth inning in both their starts, Lee is clearly their staff ace. Lee had a solid outing, pitching 8 2/3 innings, striking out 6 and walking none. Adams struck out the...

Phillies 8, Mets 3: Cliff Lee pitches near-complete game

Cliff Lee is well ahead of his 2012 pace in terms of wins. On Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park Lee earned his second win of the season in as many starts. Last season it took Lee until July 31 to pick up his second win of the year. Lee was in command from start to finish on the mound and nearly went the distance and Ryan Howard, Michael Young and John Mayberry all hit home runs...

Say Hello To A British Man Who Tried To Pick A Fight With Everyone On The Plane

Bats Rock Gee as Lee Nearly Goes Distance

No breeze and 81 degrees at game time makes for one thing – hittin’ weather. The Phillies abused Dillon Gee and slugged their way to an 8-3 victory over the New York Mets. POWER HOUR -The Phillies went yard three times in the third inning, including back-to-back homers from Ryan Howard and Michael Young. John Mayberry also pitched in. For Howard, it was his first of the season...

A Tale of Two Pitchers

While Cliff Lee is pitching like a man at the peak of his career, Roy Halladay seems to be in a free fall. With an 8-3 pounding of the Mets last night, Lee has started the season off with a 2-0 record. Halladay, on the other hand, has begun with 2 awful losses. Even the offense seemed pumped to perform for Lee. The Phillies even hit 3 home runs in 1 inning to support their ace on...

Lee Goes 8.2 Strong in Phils' Offensive Showcase Against Mets' Gee.

Final: Mets 3, Phillies 8. WP: Cliff Lee (2-0, 1.08 ERA) LP: Dillon Gee (0-2, 7.71 ERA) Cliff Lee didn't disappoint yet again this evening.  He lasted eight and two-thirds innings, allowing just three runs, two of them earned, on eight hits.  He walked none, and struck out a total of six batters.  He now has two of the three total wins thus far in 2013 for the Phillies. We...

Kyle Kendrick Gets The Ball As Phillies Look For First Series Win Of 2013

The Phillies whooped some Mets a** last night. With Cliff Lee on the mound and a wholloping set of home runs, the Phillies were able to even this three-game series at one-a-piece. Cliff Lee was spectacular once again last night. Nearly going the distance, but falling short at 8 2/3...

Phillies 8, Mets 3

Michael Young and Ryan Howard homered, Cliff Lee came within one out of a complete game and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 8-3 on Tuesday night. John Mayberry Jr. also went deep for Philadelphia and Young had three hits, missing the cycle by a double. Lee (2-0) allowed three runs - two earned - and eight hits, striking out six in 8 2-3 innings. The 2008 AL Cy...

MLB Game Picks - Tuesday: April 9, 2013

Monday was a very good day here for the Game Picks. The only two incorrect picks were (of course) the Cardinals, a team that blew a save in just about the most spectacular fashion you could imagine. Between Mitchell Boggs and Scrabble, the Cardinals allowed nine runs in the ninth inning. Nine. Amazing. The other incorrect pick was picking the Cubs to beat the Brewers. This game...

Slumping Ike Davis Benched

If the Mets are to beat Cliff Lee tonight – the second Phillies’ ace in as many nights – they’ll have to do it without Ike Davis. Davis is struggling out of the gate, hitting .148 with one homer and showing no signs of breaking out. He’s on the way of repeating last spring, which morphed into a miserable first half. DAVIS: Haven’t seen much of this lately. “I don...
