Jarrod Parker threw another gem on Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, holding the Orioles to one run on five hits in eight innings. Coco Crisp, continuing his offensive tear, made sure the A’s right-hander picked up his tenth win of the season with a big go-ahead home run against Orioles reliever Darren O’Day in the ninth inning. The A’s had trouble mustering much offense against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman, picking up their first base hit of the day in the fourth inning (a Jed Lowrie single). In the bottom of the third, the O’s struck first – Ryan Flaherty clubbed a solo home run to right field, shooting Baltimore out to a 1-0 lead. This would prove to be Parker’s only blemish on the day, which resulted in a stellar line of 8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K. The A’s finally made some noise against Tillman in the sixth. New/old A’s catcher Kurt Suzuki, making his first appearance since being acquired in a trade on Thursday night with the Washington Nationals, cracked a one-out double. Cr...

Last season the Baltimore Orioles made their first playoffs appearance since 1997. Will the Orioles make the postseason for a second consecutive year? (Photo credit: Tony Gutierrez/Associated Press) With less than one week of games remaining in the dog days of August, the Baltimore Orioles are in the middle of two of baseball’s closest races, the battle for the American League...

Who will the Orioles call up for September?

Six days from now the Orioles can expand their roster to 40. They may not use the 15 available roster spots as they nearly did last season but they’re likely to use more than a handful. With Norfolk still in a playoff race the Orioles don’t want to plunder the Tides but they’ll probably summon at least a few by Sunday. When Norfolk’s season ends they’ll bring up a few...

O's trade Garcia to Braves for cash considerations

The Orioles traded veteran Freddy Garcia to the Braves on Friday afternoon in exchange for cash considerations. The 36-year-old Garcia went 3-5 with a 5.77 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) with the Orioles this year and was pitching at the team's Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk. He last pitched for Baltimore on June 23 allowing seven earned runs over 2 1/3 innings and was later designated...

The Braves placed Garcia with their Triple-A team at Gwinnett, though he could be recalled when...

Orioles waste Tillman gem in 2-1 loss to Athletics

Chris Tillman picked an awful time to come up with one of his best pitching performances of the season. Tillman allowed Oakland only one run and three hits in eight innings, yet the Orioles right-hander walked off the mound for the final time with the score tied. In the ninth, Coco Crisp hit a leadoff homer off reliever Darren O'Day to give the Athletics a 2-1 victory. For...

Power and speed propel Orioles to 10-3 win

The Orioles haven’t gone on a long winning streak. With five weeks to go in the regular season and a host of games to play against difficult opponents they’ll have to go on a lengthy roll. They hope Sunday was its start. With timely hits and aggressive baserunning the Orioles easily beat the Oakland Athletics 10-3 before 33820 at Oriole Park. The Orioles (70-59) took two of...

Oakland had gone 105 straight games...

Davis stands in way of Cabrera's Triple Crown bid

Only Chris Davis stands between Miguel Cabrera and baseball history. As he heads toward the conclusion of another sensational season with the Detroit Tigers, Cabrera has a decent shot at becoming the first major league player to win the Triple Crown in successive seasons. Entering play Monday, Cabrera comfortably led the AL with a .356 batting average, 28 points higher than runner...

Coco Crisp hit a tiebreaking home run leading off the ninth inning and Jarrod Parker earned his eighth straight win as the Oakland Athletics beat the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 Saturday. After Parker and Chris Tillman waged a magnificent pitching duel for eight innings, Crisp connected on a 3-1 pitch from Darren O'Day (5-3). It was the third home run in three games for Crisp, who...

Oakland A’s Rally But Lose 9-7 to Baltimore Orioles

In the seventh inning with a runner on first and no outs, Oakland A’s manager Bob Melvin called in Ryan Cook to get a ground ball. That’s exactly what the hard-throwing right-hander did. He produced four straight ground balls, but the Baltimore Orioles scored three times in the process as they opened up a 9-7 lead. Cook finished his night pitching one inning and giving up two...

Crisp stays hot as A's beat Tigers

Coco Crisp is on such a roll that he was even a little better than Miguel Cabrera on Monday night. Crisp and Daric Barton each drove in two runs, leading the Oakland Athletics to an 8-6 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Cabrera hit his 43rd homer, bolstering his pursuit of another Triple Crown, but Barton had a tiebreaking RBI single in Oakland's two-run sixth inning. Crisp...
