The A's wound up making a lot of hard contact this week in Minute Maid Field particularly in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Astros that saw Coco Crisp deliver a two-run homer in the seventh inning to win it. On Monday Josh Reddick hit a game-winning two-run homer in the eighth. On Tuesday Brandon Moss hit a two-run go-ahead homer in the eighth although the A's bullpen wasn't be able to hold on. For catcher John Jaso the hard hitting cut both ways. He delivered the A's first run Wednesday with a first-inning opposite-field home run. But for the second straight day he had to come out of the game because he took a hard foul ball that left him with a headache and some dizziness. For that reason he had to be checked out for a concussion for the second time in less than 24 hours. It's not clear if he'll be ready to play when the A's start a four-game series in Oakland Thursday night against the Angels although he probably wouldn't be asked to start wit...

Chase Utley, to the A's, Trade Rumors Afoot

With the trade deadline growing closer, the Oakland Athletics have been taking a realistic look at their strengths and weaknesses. The Athletics could definitely benefit by reinforcing the second base position, and one of the leagues’ best is now available in Philadelphia’s Chase Utley. Currently the second base position is considered one of the team’s weaker positions, Eric...

Oakland A’s Jemile Weeks – The Interview

Jemile Weeks has had an up-and-down start (no pun intended) to his professional baseball career.  The former first round pick (12th overall) of the Oakland A’s in the 2008 MLB Draft and younger brother to current Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks, Jemile is still trying to find his footing after a very promising start to his career. Jemile sailed through the A’s...

The Oakland Athletics end road trip on a high note

Adam Rosales Starting off the second half of the MLB season on the road is not ideal, and the Oakland Athletics did stumble a bit. First came the series against the Los Angeles Angels in southern California. The last time the Athletics faced the Angels was back in April. With a 5-1 record against the Angels this season, the A’s were feeling confident. But  Yoenis Cespedes was...

Athletics place John Jaso on the 7-day DL with concussion

Another player has hit the 7-day DL this week.  The Oakland A's have placed catcher John Jaso on the DL with a concussion.  Jaso was undergoing tests over the last couple days to determine whether he was healthy enough to play - this is MLB protocol when a potential concussion exists - and he did not pass the test.  The A's decided it best to utilize the relatively new...

Athletics' Yoenis Cespedes likely out until at least Wednesday

The Oakland Athletics were once again without outfielder Yoenis Cespedes yesterday as he continues to be hampered by a left wrist injury. Manager Bob Melvin indicated to reporters -- including Jane Lee of MLB.com -- that Cespedes' chances of playing today are slim, making a Wednesday or Thursday return to the lineup more likely for the slugger. Still, Melvin didn't rule...

A's place Jaso on concussion DL

The Oakland Athletics have placed catcher John Jaso on the seven-day concussion disabled list. The A's made the move before opening a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. Stephen Vogt was called up from Triple-A Sacramento, and Derek Norris moved into the starting lineup in Jaso's place. Jaso hit his third home run of the season in Oakland's...

Athletics' Brett Anderson 'amped up' after first bullpen session

You'll have to forgive Brett Anderson if he feels like jumping off the walls after Monday's 35-pitch bullpen session. A stress fracture in his right foot, has sidelined much of his 2013 campaign and truncated a fourth consecutive season for the often-injured lefty. Confined to a walking boot for much of the last two months, the southpaw last appeared in action on April...

Jaso, Crisp Power A’s Past Astros 4-3, Griffin Earns 9th Win

Following their first loss of the season to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, the A’s took the field looking to get back to their winning ways for an early get-away day game on Wednesday. A 4-3 victory on the strength of a pair of homers and solid pitching was good enough to put the A’s back in the win-column and finish the road trip 3-3. AJ Griffin, making his third start...

Athletics' Yoenis Cespedis to play Wednesday

Oakland Athletics left fielder Yoenis Cespedes will return to the lineup on Wednesday after entering the game as a substitute on Tuesday. MLB.com's Jane Lee announced the news early Wednesday morning. Cespedes's return is right on schedule as MLB Injury News' Blaine Blontz reported on Tuesday. Cespedes had missed the first four games coming out of the All-Star break...

NMATV gives us Braun neck injections, A-Rod taking a phallus, Cruz awkward face, Colon winning steroids

We’re all familiar with NMATV by now, right? Well, they threw their hat in the ring on the Biogenesis case, and it’s gonna be useful, I predict. Well, the GIFS are. Ryan Braun with the sneaky neck injection and orgasm face. Alex Rodriguez with the little used/known anal injection with a look of satisfaaction. Nelson Cruz’s bat explodes and he exits slowly. Bartolo Colon...

During the process, we will discuss some fairly complex topics as it pertains to fielding. If...

A’s Flourishing Behind a Motley Crew of a Starting Rotation

Take one 40-year-old coming off a PED suspension, add a former first round draft pick and Tommy John survivor, mix them with a soft-tossing lefty and two relatively nondescript finesse right-handers, and what do you get? Well, the starting rotation of the 2013 Oakland A’s, that’s what. Despite the mixed bag of starters, you’d be hard-pressed to find a five-deep group of starters...
