After a long and winding minor league career, first baseman Chris Colabello is finally a major leaguer. The Minnesota Twins recalled the 29-year-old Colabello from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday and placed third baseman Trevor Plouffe on the 7-day concussion disabled list. To make room for Colabello on the 25-man roster, Minnesota put outfielder Darin Mastroianni on the 60-day DL with a stress reaction in his left foot. Colabello's story is one of persistence. He spent the first seven years of his career in the Canadian-American Association, an independent minor league. He joined the Twins organization for the 2012 season and played 134 games for Double-A New Britain, hitting 19 homers and batting .284. Colabello began the 2013 season with Rochester and has already hit 12 home runs and driven in 39 runs in 46 games for the Red Wings. Plouffe suffered a concussion in Tuesday night's game in Atlanta when he took a knee to the head after sliding into second base in the 10th inning. He left the game and was replaced by Eduardo Escobar. Minnesota will likely use a platoon of Escobar and Jamey Carroll at third base while Plouffe is out. Follow Tyler Mason on Twitter.
