Well last night wasn't the start we were looking for. Cliff Lee was lit up for six earned and the Phils only produced two runs themselves. It wasn't a good game at all, and for Cliff Lee it hasn't been a good season at all. The Marlins now hold a 4-3 record against the Phillies this year, as well as sitting 2 1/2 games ahead of them in the divison standings. This afternoon, Cole Hamels (10-3, 3.03 ERA) will look to notch his first win against the Marlins this season while his counterpart, Mark Buehrle (6-8, 3.55 ERA) will look to do the same against the Phillies. Hamels is coming off of a strong outing against Tampa Bay. On Sunday, Hamels started game one of a day-night double header, tossing seven scoreless against the Rays. Hamels only surrendered three hits and struck out seven, but with just one run to work with it didn't seem safe. Antonio Bastardo walked the first two batters he saw in the 8th and surrendered a three-run jack to Carlos Pena, Phillies lose. Ham...

Report: Phillies put Hamels on trading block

The Philadelphia Phillies, considered a contender when the season began, have been making inquiries with teams about the possibility of trading pitcher Cole Hamels, CBSSports.com reported Sunday. Hamels is 10-4 with a 3.08 ERA, but he is a free agent after this season. The Phillies, who are struggling through an injury-plagued season, are testing whether there is any interest...

Adding P Cole Hamels makes the Texas Rangers overwhelming World Series favorites

The Texas Rangers became the first team in the majors to reach 50 wins last night. The Rangers have been an offensive juggernaut this season on the diamond, scoring with proficiency as evidenced by the +102 scoring differential, the best in the majors. Leading in virtually every offensive category, the Rangers also possess the best home record in the majors at 27-14...

Fish Fry Phils In Florida

Mike Stanton played a part in all of the Marlins runs today. He looks like he'll be a terror for Phillies fans for years to come. (AP) The month of June has not been very friendly to the Phillies, and it would be more of the same today as they lost a second straight game to the Marlins 3-2. COLE GOES FISHING - So far this season, the Miami Marlins have owned Cole...

Is something actually wrong with Cliff Lee?

With the Phillies currently in last place in the NL East, their fans are getting a tad bit nervous as we enter July. The major target of their frustrations is $20 million man Cliff Lee, who is still without a win this season in his 13 starts. Because of his lack of wins, and an ERA that is currently above 4.00, some fans are jumping all over the thought that something must be wrong...

Bucs must deal for Greinke or Hamels

The 2012 Pirates are not unlike the 2008 Brewers, trying to end a long drought, trying to win over a skeptical city. What did those Brewers do? They traded for left-hander CC Sabathia and reached the postseason for the first time since 1982. What should these Pirates do? Make like the Brew Crew, pull off a franchise-altering move and trade for either Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the NL East at game 80

Clearly, one deep-in-the-game arm is Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies.  How does Miami compare after their ace has worked?  The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage. TAL’S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number after the...

Mysterious slump continues to plague Phillies' Lee

Cliff Lee hasn't been frustrated as much as he's puzzled by what's gone on in the first three months of the 2012 season. For the most part, he does the equivalent of a shoulder shrug when asked about another start going by without a win. The Philadelphia Phillies have lost 10 of Lee's 13 starts this season. In the first month, it was low run support. In the last...

Cliff Lee Has To Be Better for Phillies

Cliff Lee will make $21.5 million this year, but is currently 0-5 with a 4.13 ERA. He has pitched the first 3 months of the season without a win, and that is unacceptable. It’s no longer a matter of waiting for Cliff Lee to find his form. There is not the luxury of time now. It’s also not about a lack of run support, though he got little of that last night. Cliff Lee is just...

Phillies Flounder in 6-2 Upset in Miami; Cliff Lee Still Winless

Brutal, brutal, brutal. The season continues to go down south for Cliff Lee, who entered this game with zero wins and left with the same amount. It's not about the offense bailing him out, that hasn't been an issue as of late. This is now about Cliff Lee giving up way too many runs, which is highly unusual for him, but it has been an issue all season. It wouldn't be...

Philadelphia Phillies: 2012 ERA for the MLB 5 at game 79

Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies is among the best pitchers in the majors. What west coast hurlers are in that group? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage. TAL’S HANDY STATS   WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: I am alternating a game-day 2012 ERA For The NL East and a 2012 ERA For The MLB 5. See link section below. In each publication, the number after the title will...

Lee Continues to Struggle, Remains Winless

Final: Phillies 2, Marlins 6. WP: Cliff Lee (0-5, 4.13 ERA) LP: Josh Johnson (5-5, 3.80 ERA) Cliff Lee's struggles in the 2012 season continued to exist in the first game of the current road trip.  He lasted just four and two-thirds innings, allowing two walks, 10 hits, and six earned runs.  Lee has an 8.64 ERA in his last three outings. In his last eight outings, he has...

Johnson leads Marlins past Lee, Phillies

MIAMI (AP) -- Josh Johnson pitched six strong innings to help the Miami Marlins win consecutive games for the first time in nearly a month and keep Cliff Lee winless with a 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. Justin Ruggiano tied a career high with three hits and drove in two runs for Miami, which last won consecutive games June 2-3 at Philadelphia. The Marlins...

Game Picks - Saturday: June 30, 2012

There was a pleasant surprise this morning as yesterday's results were tallied. As the light was extinguished last night, it was with the thought that yesterday was a bad picking day. After all, Matt Cain lost. Justin Verlander lost. Cliff Lee lost...again. The Yankees lost. But then the realization dawned that the Yankees were predicted to lose as was Cliff Lee. Well, cool...
