Cleveland Sports Torture:
"My personality is completely genuine, bro!"
It's been a frustrating month of
August for the Indians. The offense has been dire during these dog days, with
every mistake the Tribe makes magnified by the lack of production at the dish. As the
calendar turns to September, Cleveland
seems poised on a razor's edge of contention that could slice them a good one at
any moment. But even with the waiver-wire trade deadline looming, all is quiet
on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.
The Indians could certainly use
help from a player not named Matt Carson. The unbalanced MLB schedule has sent
the Wahoos to Atlanta for three interleague
games, while Tribe bully Detroit
drools in anticipation for a potentially back-breaking weekend series.
Hell Week began in Atlanta with two losses by
a combined total of three runs. Cleveland
has been barely hitting as it is, so putting a pitcher in the nine-hole thanks
to hipster National League rules has ...

As the end of the month approaches, the attention of almost every Cleveland Indians fan is centered right on the playoff race.
That's for good reason, too.
Who would have thought that just one year removed from a 68-94 season, the Indians would find themselves with a 71-62 record and in the thick of the American League Wild Card race. It's quite remarkable and just goes to...
The Cleveland Indians have placed outfielder Ryan Raburn on the 15-day Disabled List with a strained left Achilles tendon (retroactive to August 19). Taking Raburn’s spot on the 25-man roster is outfielder Matt Carson who had his contract purchased from AAA Columbus.
Raburn has missed 10 of the last 11 games since August 14 with continued soreness in his left foot and begins his...
It is almost unbelievable that Ubaldo Jimenez is pitching well as the Tribe’s fifth starter and yet they are struggling to keep their competitive heads above water. However, leaving the Indians offensive struggles for later in the piece it is my responsibility to highlight or at least point to how impressive he has been of late.
Over his last 42.2 innings, beginning in the last...
The Brett Myers era in Cleveland is officially over. On Thursday afternoon the club announced that they activated the right-hander from the 60-day disabled list and released him from his contract.
Myers, 32, made just four appearances for the Indians this season going 0-3 with an 8.02 ERA (21.1 IP, 29 H, 10 HR, 5 BB, 12 K). He struggled all spring training and during the first...
You don’t get handed opportunities like this very often in MLB. The Cleveland Indians fell to the Atlanta Braves to lose their second game in a row to the best baseball team in the league. The Tribe blew an opportunity for the second night in a row to pick up a game on the Tigers.
Detroit was beat by the A’s 14-4 and the Indians could have picked up a game in the race for the...
The Cleveland Indians activated pitcher Brett Myers from the 60-day disabled list and then released him from his contract. Myers was originally signed to be the team's number three starter, but persistent right elbow problems never allowed Myers to fill that role.
As reported by Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, the Indians attempted to have Myers return as a relief pitcher, a role...
There comes a time in every Cleveland Indians’ baseball season when you can look back and say, “that was when Tribe’s ship sunk.” I’ve done it every year that I can remember here at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario, and unfortunately, it always happens before the Indians can hoist up that World Series trophy.
In good years, you can point to the late innings of a game...
We don’t really have full information on the shoulder injury that has been bothering Nick Swisher this season. We do know that it’s bothered him off and on, that he’s missed a handful of games, and that he’s had a cortisone shot recently. And from a results standpoint, we know that his power is down… […]
A rough start for Zach McAllister, a lost fly ball by Michael Bourn with the bases loaded, wild pitches and more missed scoring opportunities did the Indians in again on Friday night in Detroit even with Miguel Cabrera taken out of the game early with an injury. The rain provided some relief to the torment for Indians players and fans, but ended up forcing the game to...
Yesterday we reported that Cleveland Indians utility man Ryan Raburn was hoping to avoid a stint on the disabled list as a result of his leg injuries. Raburn showed progress while working out prior to yesterday's game, and manager Terry Francona is now optimistic that the veteran will return to the team's lineup in the near future, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com...
Without dwelling too much on another disappointing performance by the Indians’ offense on Tuesday, I’ll just say that entering the series this is the game that seemed most winnable. Justin Masterson takes the hill against Paul Maholm, who recently returned from the disabled list and has just a 4.45 ERA on the season. With a series against Detroit and Baltimore...
The Cleveland Indians are off to a rough start in what could be one of their most crucial stretches of the season.
Chris Johnson drove in the winning run with a two-out single in the ninth inning and the Atlanta Braves edged the Indians for the second night in a row, 3-2 on Wednesday.
Mike Aviles homered and drove in both Cleveland runs, but the Indians squandered too many chances...
Manager Terry Francona held a short meeting with his team before the game. Then the Cleveland Indians fell into a familiar pattern - another loss to the Detroit Tigers.
Zach McAllister was tagged early and the Tigers beat Cleveland for the 17th time in their last 21 meetings, 7-2 Friday night in a game called after seven innings because of rain.
The AL Central-leading Tigers opened...
In another strange move in what has been a very much against the grain season as far as roster moves are concerned, the Cleveland Indians have traded a player to be named later to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Jason Kubel. Indians fans remember Kubel as a part time outfielder and DH for the Twins from 2004 through 2011. In 2012, Kubel had a stand out season (30 home runs and 90 RBI...
Three weeks short weeks after Mark Reynolds was designated for assignment, Cleveland has found themselves another power bat.
This time from the left side.
A mlb.com source confirmed late Thursday night the Indians have acquired outfielder Jason Kubel in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks for a minor league pitcher and cash. The deal is expected to be announced on Friday.
