Yusmeiro Petit won both his starts for the Giants this week after being inserted into the Giants rotation for the injured Matt Cain. Petit whiffed six batters over two innings finishing with 10 on the day. Maybe even more impressive was the fact that Petit struck out National League MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt twice, making the Diamondbacks strand a total of four runners on the...

D-backs ' Corbin: Location, not fatigue, the issue

PHOENIX -- Patrick Corbin entered the sixth month of his first full major league season Sunday, a long haul for even the most veteran of major leaguers. And while Corbin said several times after an 8-2 loss to the Giants that it is location, not fatigue, that has caused him to struggle in his last two starts, the Diamondbacks have talked about going to a six-man rotation in September...

Glimpse of the Future: Giants Prospect Ricky Oropesa

San Jose Giants First Baseman Ricky Oropesa, drafted in the third round out of USC in 2011, started the year in AA Richmond before unfortunately being demoted half way through the season back down to San Jose due to a slump in which he only hit around .200. However, since Oropesa’s stint back in San Jose, he has been ripping the ball, hitting .307 with 8 homeruns and 38 RBI...

Corbin loses another 1 as D-Backs fall to Giants

Patrick Corbin isn't an automatic win anymore, and that's just more bad news for the Arizona Diamondbacks. For a long time, Arizona won just about every time the young left-hander was on the mound. But the long season seems to be taking its toll. Corbin (13-5), pitching on two extra days' rest, allowed five runs in six innings and the Diamondbacks lost to the San Francisco...

D-backs try to bounce back against Vogelsong, Giants

The Diamondbacks have chosen a bad time to hit the skids offensively. They'll look to get back on track against an improving Ryan Vogelsong and the visiting Giants on Saturday. The D-backs, six games behind the Reds for the NL's second wild card, have totaled a single run in back-to-back losses. They've left 18 runners on base in those two games and are 1 for their last...

Giants, Zito stumble against Padres

Barry Zito was on the road and once again, it wasn't very kind to him. Regardless where Zito pitches these days, the results are usually the same: another loss. Ian Kennedy beat an NL West opponent for the first time in 12 starts this season, pitching the San Diego Padres past the San Francisco Giants 4-1 on Monday. Zito (4-11) lost his eighth straight decision. He has won...

Great-late D-backs at it again in walk-off win

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks have made winning late their m.o.If it were not so excruciating, it might even be enjoyable."It's just not a fun way to play baseball," Eric Chavez said after his single in the ninth inning Saturday night gave the D-backs a 4-3 win, their 12th walk-off victory and 30th in their last at-bat this season. Chavez won the game with an opposite...

Gibson rips offense: 'Everybody isn't Cy Young'

PHOENIX -- The Diamondbacks' offense has diminished the longer this pivotal homestand has gone on, and another abrupt stop against an unlikely candidate was too much for manager Kirk Gibson to take. The D-backs hit into as many double plays and as they had hits in a 4-1 loss to the Blue Jays and right-hander Esmil Rogers on Labor Day, a day after they suffered an 8-2 loss to the...

The Giants Shut Out The Dodgers For The Championship!

Yup, it’s true!  The Arizona League Giants shut out the Dodger squad to finish what was a dominating season and when the league’s championship!  Of course, this is a league where the championship is a single game, rather than a series like we’re usually used to, but it’s not a bad thing!  And, sure, the kids in the league are so young they have to use bottled water in...

D-backs' Ross hopes to return in spring training

PHOENIX -- Naturally, the first thing Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross wanted to know about his hip injury was if it was the Bo Jackson, career-ending type. It is not. Doctors found that Ross suffered a broken bone along the back of his left hip joint in addition to a dislocation when his cleat caught near first base Aug. 11, but there was no subluxation of the type that forced...

D-backs try to get back on track againts Blue Jays

The Diamondbacks were going to need an incredible September to have any chance of winning the NL's second wild-card spot. But they've gotten off to a poor start to the month after a shaky finish to August, putting a serious dent in their playoff aspirations. Arizona looks to avoid a fifth loss in six contests as it continues a three-game set against visiting Toronto on Tuesday...
