Let the honors begin for Diamondbacks pitcher Patrick Corbin. Corbin earned National League Pitcher of the Month honors Monday after going 5-0 with a 1.53 ERA in May, beating out the likes of Pirates closer Jason Grilli and Phillies starter Cliff Lee. The award comes a day after Corbin beat the Cubs despite his worst outing of the year, improving his record 9-0 and tying former Cy Young winner Brandon Webb for the best start in D-backs history. The highlight of Corbin's May was a three-hit, complete game effort in a win over the Rockies at Coors Field on May 20. Corbin opened the season with nine consecutive starts of six or more innings and two or fewer runs allowed. He joined Ubaldo Jimenez as the second pitcher since 1916 to open the season with such success. It could be the first of many honors to come in Corbin's way this year. Already Corbin seems an obvious choice to make the NL All-Star team, and continued success could have him in the conversation for much more, but Corbin insists he doesn't pay much attention to individual accolades. "I haven't really thought about any of that at all," Corbin said Saturday. "I just try to go out there and prepare for my next start. That's all I can do. I think if you truly are worried about that kind of stuff, you'll never reach that goal."
