In a Nov. 15 story about the rescheduling of the Cincinnati Reds' season-opening baseball game from Good Friday, The Associated Press incorrectly identified Roman Catholic services held that day as Mass. Catholic churches hold services on Good Friday but do not celebrate Mass.
BEST OF MAXIM
Major League Baseball announced some major realignment news on Thursday -- most of which will make the Reds' path to both the postseason and World Series a bit easier (read ESPN's coverage of the news here).
Among the moves that will ultimately impact the Reds is the decision to move current NL Central foe Houston to the AL West beginning in the 2013 season. Although...
An idea started over at Project Prospect that I have borrowed because I think it gives some good insight into the players and what we can all see with them while watching the same video. Ronald Torreyes has done absolutely nothing but hit since signing with the Reds. The 18 year old has hit .364 between the Venezuelan Summer League, Arizona Rookie League and the Midwest League...
As expected Mesoraco is #1
Here they are, short and sweet.
Baseball America’s top 10 Reds prospects:
1. Devin Mesoraco, catcher
2. Billy Hamilton, shortstop
3. Yonder Alonso, 1B/outfielder
4. Yasmani Grandal, catcher
5. Zack Cozart, shortstop
6. Daniel Corcino, right-handed pitcher
7. Robert Stephenson, right-handed pitcher
8. Didi Gregorius, shortstop...
Cincinnati added six players to the 40-man roster:
Prior to Friday’s deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 Draft, the Reds added six to their 40-man roster.
Added were infielders Neftali Soto, Didi Gregorius, Donald Lutz and Henry Rodriguez and right-handed pitchers Kyle Lotzkar and Pedro Villarreal.
Cincinnati’s 40-man roster is now full.
I didn’t expect to see Lutz...
I’ve been out of the state all week, and am now catching up on some old stuff, which is why you’re seeing this old news here now. Even half a week late, though, I think it’s worth pointing out.
The Reds had been scheduled to open the season on Friday, April 6. But thanks to some special finagling, they’ll now be playing the day before … [visit site to read more]
Reds owner Bob Castellini left the owners' meetings in Milwaukee a happy man.The approval of the sale of the Houston Astros to Jim Crane was approved with the stipulation that the Astros move from the Reds' division -- the National League Central -- to the American League West.
That means the Reds are in a five-team division again beginning in 2013.
It was another nice year for second baseman Brandon Phillips and with that, now the team has to decide what do with him. The Reds have Phillips for 2012 for $12 million but after that all bets are off. Apparently Phillips was talking to the brass at the General Manager’s Meeting but Walt Jocketty said [...]
Congratulations to all you loyal readers out there, you have made it to another coveted weekend. And to help kick it off right, here are some interesting Reds-related reads for you...
* Satchel Paige of MLBDailyDish.com recently took a stab at projecting the Reds' 2012 roster. Take a look at their post by following this link.
* Open auditions for the new Cincinnati's...
Always a prolific user of Twitter, Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips mentioned Wednesday he hoped to learn about his future with the club, and then on Thursday, stated he was flying to Cincinnati from his hometown in Atlanta.
In the last game of the 2011 Arizona Fall League regular season, the Phoenix Desert Dogs and Peoria Javelinas finished with a 2-2 tie. Also, apparently the last games of the AFL regular season go only seven innings. My guess would be so the playoff teams can keep their players, pitcher in particular, fresh for the postseason.
