Found June 08, 2013 on Atlanta Bullpen:
Atlanta Braves second baseman Dan Uggla has had some great moments since he came to Atlanta, but he’s also been a major enigma.  Uggla is the second highest paid Braves player behind B.J. Upton, but his production hasn’t been top ten. Uggla has not only struggled at the plate, he is currently 20th in the major leagues in second base fielding percentage at .965, and is tied for the major league lead in second base errors with nine. The Braves are obligated to pay Uggla on his 5-year $62 million salary through the 2015 season.  Unless they can find a trade partner to unload Uggla, Braves fans will be enjoying Dan Uggla through the 2015 season. The Braves may be able to find a team interested in taking Uggla, if they eat a large part of his salary.  That would not be a very savory option, especially considering that Liberty Media, the Braves owner, has them on a tight budget. A better option would be if the Braves could put together an attractive package of players that another team wo...

Brandon Beachy’s rehab start – Gwinnett Braves vs Columbus Clippers 6-9-2013

Susan and I went to see Beachy's rehab start at the Gwinnett Braves last night. Pictures below, and just a few notes... ♡  Beachy looked pretty, ladies. ♡  His hair is still hilarious. ♡  His box score looked good: lots of strikes, lots of Ks. But the balls that were hit were hit pretty hard; I'm glad he had some good defense behind him. Watching his five innings...

I get to see the Braves in Philly!! (And other less interesting stuff)

Let's discuss how exciting this is. One of my original blog readers lives in Philly and invited me to come up the weekend after July 4 to see the Braves play the Phillies. Yes, let's do that! She says our tickets on Friday are so close we'll be on TV. I'm getting Saturday's tickets, so readers, if you have any tips, please share? I've never been to Philadelphia...

Chipper Jones sorry for offensive tweet

The retired Braves slugger might want to think twice before he tries to crack jokes about immigration on Twitter.

Medlen sharp, belts HR for Braves

Kris Medlen pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings and hit his first major league home run, Dan Uggla also went deep, and the Atlanta Braves continued their recent stretch of dominant starting pitching in a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. Medlen (3-6) scattered five hits, struck out six and allowed only one baserunner as far as third. That was in the sixth inning...

Game Day Pictures: Braves vs Blue Jays 5-30-13

Alex Wood's second career pitch This was a pretty fun game - Freddie Freeman bobblehead day, scoring 11 runs, and Alex Wood's MLB debut. Alison and Laura and I sat above 1B so Alison could see her beloved second team up close and Laura could cheer for Freddie. (Everyone on this side was cheering extra-hard for Freddie!) Here are some pictures... I missed most of BP, I'...

Three Cuts: Medlen powers Braves to win over Dodgers

Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 2-1 victory over the Dodgers, a game that offered more twists and turns than your standard outing of three combined runs: 1. Get ready for the first (and probably last) Bo JacksonKris Medlen comparison in sports history Most baseball fans recall that Jackson once a two-sport world-beater with MLB's Kansas City Royals and...

Three Cuts: Dodgers take out Braves on wild pitch

ATLANTA The Los Angeles Dodgers took down the Atlanta Braves 2-1 in extra innings Friday night. Here are three observations from the game: 1. The Dodgers did not need the 10th-inning, clutch hit to earn the win Up until the 10th inning Friday night, the Braves pitching staff starter Paul Maholm and relievers Jordan Walden and Luis Avilan was outstanding. Maholm essentially made...

Blast From the Past: Scouting Reports On Chipper Jones

The 2013 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft is in full-swing, so in honor of all the scouts out there, I’d like to take a quick look at some of the scouting reports made available to us by the fine folks at Diamond Mines. Here are three scouting reports on future Hall-of-Famer Chipper Jones. You’ll notice that two of said reports are quite similar, with one scout missing the...

Wild Pitches Cost Braves, Dodgers win 2-1 in 10

A wild pitch by Anthony Varvano allowed Ramon Hernandez, the Dodger catcher, to move to 3rd base with just one out in the bottom of the 10th.  With Juan Uribe at the plate, and Skip Schumaker pinch running for Hernandez,  Varvano threw his 2nd wild pitch of the inning.  This one was costly as Schumaker scored from 3rd to give the Dodgers a 2-1 win over the Braves. The win gives...

Full Count Flashback: Greg Maddux Had An Amazing Career

Greg Maddux Career was unparalled How does a guy who looks like an accountant and has an avg fastball speed under 90 mph win 350+ games and strikeout 3300+ players? Like real estate, location, location, location. I still remember when the Chicago Cubs let him go and he signed with the Atlanta Braves.  I couldn’t stop shaking my head.  I was so confused as to why the Cubs would...

Medlen Slams Braves Past Dodgers

Kris Medlen hit a solo homer and pitched  6 2/3 shutout innings as the Atlanta  Braves defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday night, 2-1.  The win gives the Braves a chance to split the series Sunday afternoon. After a Dan Uggla solo shot, and a B.J. Upton strikeout, Braves starting pitcher Kris Medlen belted a solo shot of his own. The home run was the 1st of Medlen’s big...

Chipper Jones Makes ‘Joke’ on Twitter About Using Alligators to Stop Illegal Immigrants From Crossing Rio Grande

There is a saying out there that Chipper Jones might want to remember the next time he goes on Twitter — think before you tweet. The former third baseman for the Atlanta Braves sent out a tweet Saturday afternoon pondering whether or not alligators can be used to stop illegal immigrants from crossing the American-Mexican border. It appeared to be an attempt at a joke, though, with...

Braves-Padres Preview

While he started off a bit shaky, Julio Teheran has since found his groove. The San Diego Padres' Jason Marquis has shined of late, too. Teheran takes the mound opposite Marquis as the visiting Atlanta Braves open a three-game set against the Padres on Monday night. After posting a 7.31 ERA in his first three starts, Teheran (4-2, 3.30 ERA) has significantly turned things...
