Yesterday morning, one of the biggest names on this year’s free agent market signed a lucrative deal, shocking many. Albert Pujols and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim agreed to a 10 year, $250 million deal. With Pujols now a Halo, the Cardinals have listed Lance Berkman as their new first baseman. Although, Pujols’ position on the field has been filled, the money that was saved is still opened up many options for the Cardinals. Perhaps  signing short stop Jimmy Rollins.

The Cardinals have stated that they are interested in not only Rollins, but Carlos Beltran and Rafael Furcal as well.

While over the past two days many reports are speculating that Rollins will stay with Philly despite his five-year asking price. While the Phillies are willing to work with him, the Cardinals now have money from losing Pujols and may be willing to make a deal with Rollins. Only if Rollins drops his five-year contract demand.
According to sources, Rollins’ agent, Dan Lozano will meet with Ruben Amaro Jr. tomorrow morning. This is similar to the claim made a couple of nights ago. On Wednesday night, it was reported that Jimmy Rollins’ agent Dan Lozano and the Phillies were supposed to meet and that a deal could be conceived as soon as midnight. However, Jim Salisbury of CSN dismissed that rumor.

We’ll keep you posted on the latest news regarding Jimmy Rollins and the rest of the Phillies during the hot stove.
