Kevin Kouzmanoff was just signed to a minor league deal by the Kansas City Royals,  Adam Rubin speculated that the Mets may be looking for a RH power bat for the bench who played 1b/3b making Kouz a perfect fit especially when you consider he played under this front office in San Diego. It's also believed that they wouldn't promote a youngster for the bench, instead opting to get them more playing time in the minors.  But what if a player is projected to be a bench player and has struggled with injuries as a starter, it might make sense to use him off the bench in the majors. Zach Lutz might be that type of player, despite dropping down on the prospect list due to injuries and age (25y/o), Lutz was ranked by Baseball America as the top power hitting prospect. Maybe the way to keep him healthy is to use him sparingly off the bench, last year he was considered a Sept. call-up candidate but post concussion symptoms ended his season.
