Sporting a .353 average, seven homers, and 40 RBI, Yankees All-Star catcher Jorge Posada is having one of the most productive seasons of his career. Perhaps not coincidentally, Posada is in the final year of his six-year, $59 million contract, and according to recent statements, has every intention of testing the the free agent waters this winter.
Closer Mariano Rivera made similar statements in spring training, equally perturbed that the only organization he has ever known was unwilling to talk about a contract extension prior to the start of the season. It's very difficult to imagine either player in another uniform, but stranger things have happened. Ultimately, the Bombers could regret taking either player for granted.

I have a feeling Posada will come back down to earth in the second half. He's put together some torrid starts in the past that haven't quite held up for a full season.

If he stays hot he may be dealt before the deadline. I know he is a staple of that organization, but they need some young proven talent. He could be a guys a team like the A's or Cubs would make a deal for.
