ST. LOUIS, Mo. (AP) Cardinals cleanup hitter Allen Craig says he's recovered from a foot injury and ready to be put on St. Louis' World Series roster.
Craig, who hasn't played since Sept. 4 because a left mid-foot sprain, said Sunday he anticipates being the designated hitter in Wednesday night's Series opener at Boston.
Craig batted a major league-best .454 during the regular season with runners in scoring position.
The Cardinals worked out at Busch Stadium on Sunday, two days after beating the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL pennant.

The St. Louis Cardinals won the National League Championship Series in six games over the Los Angeles Dodgers. They capped off their series win with a 9-0 pounding, scoring seven runs off Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw through four innings. The Cardinals are an offensive machine, and even though one of their biggest cogs, first baseman Allen Craig, has missed the entire postseason so...
St. Louis Cardinals rookie right hander Michael Wacha has been quite good this postseason. By ‘quite good’ I mean ‘dominant.’ In 21 postseason innings, he has surrendered just one run. Meanwhile, he has struck out nearly thirty percent of hitters, while walking just five percent.
Wacha features a fastball that has averaged 95.5 miles per hour this postseason and a devastating...
ST. LOUIS -- After another lively session of live batting practice Monday, Allen Craig said he still hasn't been told if he will be added to the Cardinals' roster for the World Series.
Judging by the smile on his face, he's not worried.
Typically stoic, Craig addressed the media Monday afternoon with the smile of someone who isn't going to have to play spectator...
The lessons begin in rookie ball.
Every team emphasizes fundamentals and preparedness, both physical and mental, in the hope it all becomes second nature as players climb through the system.
One organization's philosophy always seems to stick out. Everyone knows about The Cardinal Way.
Even before opening day this year, St. Louis was hit hard by season-ending injuries to longtime...
Allen Craig has been nothing more than a cheerleader on the bench during the postseason this year. However, the man who had been filling the void left by Albert Pujols will likely be back on the roster for the World Series. Craig had been nursing alistfranc fracture that prevented him from playing in both the NLDS and NLCS. Now, he’s ready to go.

ST. LOUIS -- Seven-plus months since Opening Day, baseball is down to two teams. For once, it's not only the two hottest teams that will meet in the World Series, but the two best.
The Cardinals and the Red Sox both won 97 games and finished with the best record in their respective leagues.
The Red Sox led the AL in scoring; the Cardinals led the NL. (Neither offense...
Hot News for P Michael Wacha
With the Arizona Fall League about a third of the way complete, I thought I would look at how each Cardinal representative is looking so far this fall.
Piscotty has played in 8 games for the Salt River Rafters and has hit safely in the last six. While he has yet to hit a home run, he is hitting .414 with a 1.091 OPS. He is third in the league with 5 stolen bases...
A baseball season is composed of 162 games. There is a reason for this (mostly money). Baseball isn’t like basketball, where the best team, trying real hard, is gonna win the vast, vast majority of the time over a seven game…Read more →
Hot News for OF Carlos Beltran
Big Papi, Dustin Pedroia and the bearded guys from Boston. Michael Wacha, Trevor Rosenthal and those fresh mugs from St. Louis.
Pretty neat face-off in this World Series.
Cardinals-Red Sox, once again in October. Fully rested, they'll start Wednesday night at Fenway Park with Boston opening as a slim favorite.
Postseason stars from past and present -- Carlos Beltran, David Freese...
Don Mattingly called it the key of the game. The TBS broadcast team said the same thing. Other news stories called it as such. It was the third inning and Matt Carpenter came to the plate to face Clayton Kershaw with a zero to zero score and one out. To that point, Kershaw had thrown 38 pitches to get the first seven outs. By the time Carpenter hit his double, that count was up...

We know that the Red Sox will be facing the St. Louis Cardinals for at least 4 games in the World Series, starting Wednesday. What we do not yet know is the pitching match-ups. At the time of this being written only one starter has been announced, Game 1 for St. Louis will be Adam Wainwright. Here are my projected match-ups;
Clayton Kershaw was long gone. Michael Wacha kept Dodgers hitters down, ignoring the surprisingly big lead and pitching as if the opposing ace was still dealing.
The rookie left no doubt in a 9-0 rout Friday night that put the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series for the second time in three years and kicked Los Angeles' high-dollar roster to the curb.
Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market.
Note that, this year, in addition to asking readers to estimate the years/dollars each...
